All the news channels dedicated the whole of yesterday to that incident. It was like the world had stopped and those 32 people were the only people who died......I was amazed and slightly disturbed....is this the negative aspect of globalisation?

Ok, it was a tragedy, somewhat shocking but I'm sure there were worse things that had taken place. The whole day dedicated to guess work and interviews with students, which made viewers even more confused.

Consider that Virgina Tech Campus has a gun ban in effect. The bastard knew this, which is why he picked the place to do the deed. What can we conclude from this in light of the gun ban? Do gun bans protect the people, or make it much easier for an armed criminal to get his way? Would things have gone differently if one student within the vicinity of the perp were armed?

Back in 96 I was reading a German Newspaper, the Augsburger Allgemeine, and on the tenth page there was one paragragh headlined (translated):

"3,500 people die in fighting in Siera Leone."

That was after a reported one months heavy fighting. Page 10!!!!! One paragragh. It's Africa, nobody cares. But have a shooting in the US, Russia, Japan or Europe and it's front page news!
