surrender,
From what I recall, there's a verse in the Qur'an that describes the fate of Muslims who die while living in non-Muslim lands. When the angels ask them why they have not migrated to Muslim lands, they say "We were weak and wronged." Then the angels say to them "Wasn't Allah's earth wide enough for you to migrate to?" This particular verse was sent as a warning to Muslims in Mecca who did not migrate even after the Prophet (saw) and his followers went to Madina. Instead they chose to stay for their businesses, wealth, etc. I'll try to find you the actual link.
As for the hadith you're asking, I'm not sure of it. All I know is, it is not allowed to die among the kuffaar, its better to migrate to Muslim land fisabiililah and whoever does that will have all his sins forgiven. Its said migrating fiisabiililah is like doing Hajj, because all your previous sins are wiped clean.

Re: Where do you want to be buried?
surrender,
Here's the verse I was talking about:
“Verily, as for those whom the angels take (in death) while they are wronging themselves (as they stayed among the disbelievers even though emigration was obligatory for them), they (angels) say (to them): “In what (condition) were you?” They reply: “We were weak and oppressed on the earth.” They (angels) say: “Was not the earth of Allaah spacious enough for you to emigrate therein?” Such men will find their abode in Hell — what an evil destination!”
[al-Nisa’ 4:97]

Doesn't that apply to those who strayed away from the way of Islam and choose to follow the lifestyle of the unbelievers and christians? I'm not talking in particular about the ones who left the religion but those who are muslim by name only.Kolombo wrote:surrender,

Re: Where do you want to be buried?
It applies to any Muslim who has the ability to migrate to Muslim land, but chooses to remain among the kuffaar for an invalid reason.Cali_Gaab wrote:Doesn't that apply to those who strayed away from the way of Islam and choose to follow the lifestyle of the unbelievers and christians? These are the common reasons it becomes permissible to live in a non-Muslim land:
1-To spread the deen (Da'wah).
2-To receive medical help.
3-To study (knowledge which can not be found in a Muslim country).
And if they face persecution upon returning to Muslim land.
But it becomes obligatory to migrate from the kaafir lands to the Muslim lands for those who are able to do that, if they are unable to practise their religion openly.
Shaykh Ibn ‘Uthaymeen (may Allaah have mercy on him) was asked about this matter and he said:
Zakariya al-Ansaari al-Shaafa’i said in his book Asna al-Mataalib (4/207)This is one of the most difficult issues nowadays because countries vary, as stated above, and because for some Muslims, if they go back to their homelands they will be persecuted for their religion whereas they are safe from that in the kaafir countries. But if we say that it is haraam for them to settle among the kuffaar, then where is the Islamic state that will accept them and allow them to settle there?! This is the meaning of what he said, may Allaah have mercy on him.

Bottom line is to strive to return to Muslim land and die there, so that you avoid punishment.
Re: Where do you want to be buried?
From what I've understood, the rule of migrating to Muslim land depends on two factors:
1-Is the Muslim unable to practice his religion openly in the kuffaar country? If yes, then migration to a Muslim country becomes obligatory.
2-Will the Muslim face persecution if he/she returns to a Muslim country? If yes, then migration is not obligatory.
