Is he better than Chenua Achebe or Ali Mazrui or Wole Soyinke (african heavy weights English wirters)? No

If you read about Nurradin Farah's work in the 1970s, you would realize that he actually predicated the current mess Somalia faces as a nation.

As for his stature in World Literature, he is considered to be the best African Writer today. I read both him and Wole Soyinka, and Nurradin Farah is leagues ahead. It is because of the politicization of the Nobel Prize that he hasn't been able to win. The fact that people predict him to win every year, means he will be overlooked.
Prediction?
This guy is not very credible this is the same dude that denied he was born in Imey and chose Baydhabo.
Which books has he written in somali?
Idaja'a is the one that really deserves a Somali nobel prize  8-)

Ok if thats the case lets give him credit on the basis of his work and not for being Somali because hadhi aan somalinimo uhilineno wa inuu wax anaka naanfacayo no qoraa and not merely plagiarising somali literarature and translating it to English and claiming its his work.

Idaja is a Somali language writer and Idaja devotes his time to recording Somalia's literary past. Nuridin is an English language writer and writes fiction (and sometimes non-fiction as in Voices from the Somali diaspora) that is based off of Somalia's political past. They are not even in the same genre sxb.

Are you becoming the uncivilized Somali I had in mind when the only thing you have against a great writer is because he as your clansman did not choose a clan city as his origin?

Dude, first actually read his books, then comment. You are so pathetic.

This is the guy whose entire purpose of writing is "to keep my country alive by writing about it." and has been Somalia's connection to the outside world.

It will be a holy fool to ignore his works and compare him to some obscure writer.

Voltage why does he claim that he was born in Somalia while he wasnt? If Nuradeen wrote his work in afsomaali he would have got much of the audience. And by the way when writing a piece of work that is political oriented who do you intend to impart the message to ? the parties involved or a foreign audience?

 ....The ONLY reason Farah is continuously nomiated for Nobel is the fact that one he is a minority, two coz there are no real good black writers who meet intellectual standards, and third he writes provacatives subjects that intrigues the sick cadaans. Talks of beastiality and sick sexual ritiuals is not excatly literature.

1. It doesn't matter what he claims and you can't tell him where he was born. Even if he claimed another city, that is his prerogative. You are talking about cities, people even change their names while writing. Ever heard of pen name? You could be Ki-shing Hu Wun and name yourself Anthony Granger. Who cares?

2. Nuruddin would not have gotten a much bigger or even same audience had he written in Somalia. Heck I am fluent Somali speaker and he would not have gotten even my audience. English is the most universal language and no amount of pride can change the power and influence you wield as a writer by writing in English.

3. Even if he had written it for the "parties involved", FEW Somalis could read now and even fewer could have read then when he started in the 70's. The Script was still being edited then. So he wrote for a global audience since he was in exile.

I mean come on. You are throwing baby questions here.

I don't want to call you a bimbo, but stick to what you do best please which is gossip corners. Nuruddin is one of the most articulate and supreme intelligent writers I have ever seen.

Well put.

It is such a cruel pity that the people who he wrote for will never pick up any of his books and appreciate the deep wisdom of this guy.

Instead, they will big-up Wole Soyinka and at the very same time whine that Nurraddin Farah is known because of "affirmative action," without seeing the irony in this statement
