Why didn’t Siad Barre try to recapture NFD first

Post by Oxidant »

Why didn’t Siad Barre try to recapture NFD first instead of Western Somalia?

It would have be a lot easier and Somali military back then would have crushed the Kenyan military

WTF. This guy is my hero and has all my respect

I am relativity new to Somali politics and trying to gather as much information about the history. I was just wondering why not NFD first. It would have been much easier

Because the NFD doesn't have any Natural Gas, Aggriculture, Minerals, Rivers etc. that Western Somalia Has. Basically its useless land, but Ethiopia scored a coup securing Western Somalia.

Twisted, are You saying You would rather have NFD then Western Somalia? Why do You think Oil Companies are in that region right now as we speak, while Kenya just ignores the NFD region? Btw I have a lot of family in the NFD region and My clan Has a lot of deegan there, but I'm just being honest.

NFD wasn't a disputed region ( the civilian government, gave up all claims to it) whereas Kelinka 5naad wasn't. The kacaan government knew the wouldn't get any international support (diplomatically or militarily) if they went after Kenya.
