Being gay I believe is somewhat sub-conscious learned behaviour. I also believe that some people are more likely to be gay than others. Mainly because of their environment and exposure to things while growing up. Islams view to fornication is adament. The punishment for hetrosexuality and homosexuality is pretty much the same. So in that sense, the Quran was highlighting the concept of sex out side of marriage and not Gay sex. But anyways...
Lets take this simple Concept. If being gay equates with being overtly discriminated against, picked on and bullied. Along with the fact that religion completely condems them and when they "Come out of the closet" often face the loss of family members. Gay teens are 11 times more likely to commit suicide. People who are gay are more likely to have been abused & beaten up and are much more likely to suffer from depression.
Now, if being gay was a simple choice. A person would have to be completely insane to choose a lifestyle of homosexuality. Right... ?
Now the whole concept of life in this Dunaya in Islam involves being tested. And in the Quran Allah clearly states :
"And Allah will test Mankind to determine those who are (true) in their Iman"
Sexuality and the control of it, is probably one of the most difficult for many people. Mainly because its so innate and intrinsic in our entire essence. Its also the most Taboo and the most punishable sin.
In the Quran it also states :
"For every Illness Allah has created a cure"
So therefore Muslims must see Homosexuality as a mental illness. A distortion. An absence of Hetero-Neurones.
You cant simply say Faggots must be beheaded. Thats prmitive and Ignorant.
And finally, the last point I am gona make is again in reference to the Quran. - I am sure everyone is well aware of the story of prophet luut. (If not.. google it)
When all the Homosexuals came to his house demanding him to Give them the Angels (who were very attractive men in appearance) the Hadith says :
When Luut may Allaah exalt his mention saw the mob approaching his house, he shut the door, but they kept on banging on it. He pleaded with them to leave the visitors alone and fear Allaah's punishment. He urged them to seek sexual fulfilment with their wives, for that is what Allaah had made lawful.
Notice what luut did ?
Instead of abusing and ridiculing these Homo'z he suggested they CORRECT their ways. Just like how an Ilness should be cured. He suggested they find females to rid their homo desires.
