It is fine as long as the little kid knows who their real father is. If the step father is a good guy who takes care of the kid, I don't see any problem with that. However if the mother never told the kid that the step father is not the kids biological father, which is haram to do by the way, then there is a big problem with that.

I personally would like to not get involved in the lives of my exs. I forgot them as soon as I am no longer with them but I think it would be a different story if children were involved.

Let me throw my two cents in the discussion.even though I am a Halimo.

It all depends on the conciousness of the real dad..

Some of them can't be called a "Dad" they are just sperm donors..Those who fool around and have a kid with this woman and with that woman and have the attitude" Waa uun ilmahayii oo aniga ayey ii korayaan" That kind of a dad ofcourse doesn't care what his child calls his stepdad.

If the dad was a real dad and somehow the Halimo decides to divorce him and marry another man, then it will definately bother the real dad to see his child calling another person a dad..

The third scenario is, whatever the reason is, anyone married to ones dad or mom is a step-parent, some families are very respectfull and call their step-kids, daughter or son so in return the kids call them Dad or mom...
