Do you agree with this quote?

Post by union »

I put no stock in religion. By the word religion I have seen the lunacy of fanatics of every denomination be called the will of god. I have seen too much religion in the eyes of too many murderers. Holiness is in right action, and courage on behalf of those who cannot defend themselves, and goodness. What God desires in the heart and mind.
Discuss its merits and shortcomings.

Union,

You will fail to make it past the final isbaaro because you will lack enough religious coin to pay the toll.

Let us limit discussion to the quote rather than personalities.

In the past 100 years, religion had little or nothing to do with the single most murder with the highest casualties:
World War II was the deadliest military conflict in history. Over 60 million people were killed, which was over 2.5% of the world population.

In the past decade, Western secularism has caused the single most murder with the highest casualties of which the overwhelming majority were Muslims:
On 28 January 2008, ORB published an update based on additional work carried out in rural areas of Iraq. Some 600 additional interviews were undertaken September 20 to 24, 2007. As a result of this the death estimate was revised to 1,033,000 with a given range of 946,000 to 1,120,000.

I got the quote off a movie set during the crusades (Kingdom of Heaven) do you think it would have been more true then?

It wouldn't have been true for Muslims. The following dialogue from the same movie is proof:

Saladin: I will give every soul safe conduct to Christian lands. Every soul. The women, the children, the old... and all your knights and soldiers and your queen. Your king, such as he is... I leave to you... and what God will make of him. No one will be harmed. I swear to God.

Balian: The Christians butchered every Muslim within the walls when they took this city.

Saladin: I am not those men. I am Saladin. Saladin.

Saladin was an enlightened leader.

But some of the groups that you support, like Al Shabab, undoubtedly are described by the quote quite well.
Why do you continue to support people with only murder in their hearts and minds?

Arabtum, WW2 had a lot to do with religion. Where do you think the Nazis inherited their intense hatred for Jews?

Religion per se is the not the problem just intellectually inept people failing to grasp the necessity of separating religion from politics, culture, history, language, etc.

I give no relevance to this quote and simply see it as the ramblings of a cynic. You see this is not an argument for or against religion, it is a general observation. This observation speaks of man and religion in passing, Religion is an ideology and needs man to give it life, what he really puts no stock is in man.
