Alpha - by who's measure? Feminism has been hijacked by all sorts of groups trying to promote their own warped versions of what feminism is, but I believe it's still well alive in much of the world, in one spectrum or another. It may have evolved and gotten sidetracked, but it's message has always remained the same i.e. social equity and basic rights for women in every framework within society. This I support, it's in my personal interest to support it because I plan on having daughters someday and can not stomach my poor daughters facing social strife & injustices because of their gender, not to mention all the countless women out there who deserve fair treatment, mutual respect and social equity. I try to focus on the bigger picture, not on the petty details.

Avi,
I support it as well, but certainly not as it's presented by the majority of women and opinions I've come across.

If feminism allowing women to drive, take public office and travel by herself or work without their fathers permission I am its biggest opponent.

Re: I'm a feminist.
These are probably feminazis and women who troll about feminism. Whenever I hear feminism, I don't think of women trying to enslave all men & takeover in terms of leadership. I remember Somalia's early feminists, women like Edna Aden, Dr. Hawa Abdi, and countless others who spent years trying to improve the lives of countless women. I think of organizations like Ururka Hooyooyinka who's mission was to bring focus & attention to the plight of Somali mothers. Local NGOS that ran workshops, seminars, adult education programs for women. Everything from nutrition to breastfeeding, family planning, anti-FGM campaigns. All by women (feminists) for women. This form of feminism is positive and needed. Empty words, tirades and feminazi rants should not be allowed to get as much focus as they do. It's insulting to the actual cause.Alphanumeric wrote:I support it as well, but certainly not as it's presented by the majority of women and opinions I've come across.
We all have mothers, sisters, some of us wives & someday daughters. It's immoral for countless Somali women to suffer because of injustices we inflict on them & endorse. Out of ignorance, incompetence and insecurity. Not to mention ego.
