The case is a two way issue. Yes, the Somali customer services in their restaurants is not good at all, they are clumsy sometimes but what I have noticed is Somalis don't give tips to these poor men When I left a tip for them people told me "Waad is gaala gaalayneysaa"..Tell me why is it ok to give a tip to others and not to our people

Tips are earned.

I gladly don't tip. It should be made illegal. Its the same as panhandling. I find it humorous when them workers at the Chinese buffet add the 15% tip on the bill like its mandatory by law. LOL

I dont go to somali resturants so I wouldn't know but there are some somali shops I avoid because the old ladies force me to buy things I don't want or need.

I used to be polite, order and sit at the back waiting for my order. I would watch them take orders and serve other people that came after me taking their sweet time.

That was few years ago, now I enter the place anoo ceeytamaayo "waryaa kii africa shalay laga keeney aawey" then he comes and insults me. I order. I get my food in minutes.

I take the food back and say "warninyahow waani sidee, ma hilib la'aan baa nigu dhacday? waa maxay labada xaboo soosaartey saxanka" etc....

Yes tips are earned, but we are talking about those who are too stingy to pay the earned tip Bakhayliin weeye, Fowqal Balkhayliin...

I NEVER pay a tip. They are already getting paid to do their job through the money I pay and the business they work for is earning money from what I pay. What more do they want from me ? Anyone who tips is just misguided.

Yep thats how it works. If you sit down and expect everything to be done for you smoothly that will not happen. You have to be loud and obnoxious in order to get the service you want. But I find that is the case in any restaurant, not just Somali restaurants.

Not in all instances. I expected non-somalis to label somalis, but for somalis to be denigrate other Somalis, spreading generalisations as though Somalis have an inherent incapability to provide good customer service for no reason other than being Somali, is just absurd.So I will not slap a generalisation on all Somali restaurants. I wont say that they are predetermined to provide bad customer service. What I will say is that of-course you are likely to come across some bad service somewhere at some point as with any other establishment. It is a disgusting mindset and an extremely dangerous one at that, to associate all things bad or negative with being Somali or Somalinimo.

Somali restaurants are Somali owned businesses that create jobs for Somalis. They provide a wide range of good-tasting, halal food at very reasonable prices to their customers. They are in general very accomodating and are very generous with their portions. Of-course you are likely to come across some bad service somewhere at some point. But this is the case anywhere with any group of people. I personally have experienced better service and food at the Somali restaurants I have eaten than say Pakistani or even Chinese restaurants. Where I experience a Somali business with a fault, I will give them honest feedback and suggestions to improve their business where possible, instead of avoiding them or boycotting them. Because they are MY own people, treat all their customers fairly and speak MY language and serve MY type of food, whilst they are for members of the Somali community making money, creating jobs and a hanging/eating place for the Somali people. I say kudos to them.

Fuck you all who are saying shit to denigrate the Somali business community. We are better off without you. Go eat pork-feet at your favourity CHINK retaurants

They don't hit on me when I am with my mother. And when I go to Middle Eastern restaurants I usually don't pay because they say it's on the house.

There are some who have women waiters like the Ocean. Go downstairs and you would be served by women.
Waiters hit on me even when I am in a non-somali restaurant. I happened to me twice and felt awkward. A blue eyed waiter was eyeing on me he had no shame to approach me when I was with a group of people. It was awful because I responded to him thinking that he knew me

somali customer service is awesome because they are not selling you anything more than you expect, no fake smile or "how is your day sir" as if they care. they just put the pasta in front of you, if your lucky you get an "laftaa iskaa ilaali" or a little bit of "akuu saxaanin" if you catch them on a good day that is , on a bad day you get something like "waar qoxootidii kudaale wase mahaad qaando baaris kali udirsanee" . Wallahi its refreshing , no BS, good food cheap prices, lots of joking, its good.
