Xplaya,
It tends to be the most well off who tahriib: relatively wealthy youth, middle class people etc. Those folks living hand to mouth can't afford luxury of tahriibing. Every year, the enrollment in the universities there drop as few students return all in the pursuit of tahriib. This speaks volumes about how people's perceptions vs. realities on the ground. The biggest ticking demographic time bomb are the youth and how large their numbers are getting to be. Bored, idle youth who have never traveled beyond a small territory and are what one told me in an "open air prison" are trying to find something new and exciting. For each one story of success, there are probably 20 of failure and misery resulting from tahriib.

Let's say that Somalia's # 1 export is livestock. It's obvious that someone is making money from livestock. Do you actually think that the avg Somali has access to obtaining, purchasing, or owning livestock? Most Somalis in Somalia don't have entitlements and lack purchasing power.X.Playa wrote:
Non sense just talk and cliche still up today Somalia's #1 export are live stock , so how come this life and time hasn't changed for these people?? or are they in a different time zone and dimension then you?
Abundant wealth could exist in any given society but that doesn't translate to the avg farax living a good life.
Re: A story of a Tahriib Woman death, sharks, child rape and
it depends how you define poverty, a million is poor compared to a billionair. I don't think people in Somalia are as poor as they claim to be , but they are just too greedy.
70% of somalis are nomads that sell their live stock $80 a head , and the least herd they have is 100 head of sheep/goat, thats give brith 2ice a year meaning from 100 too 300 in a year and they sell let say 100 head per $80 , $800 in Burco living as a nomad is a good decent life.
how is that a poverty?

Agreed 100% , its matter of choice not need, these somalis claim the reason they are running is because of poverty lool its a silly pretext , the nomads in the bush , dusty, and thirsty made a choice to stick with their way of life, its the lazy city people who go for Tahriib and ended up as a fuckkk toy for Arabs and a meat for sharks... and i feel no sorrow for them.

Xplaya,
I am talking at about Somali standards not compared to ours. A family earning $100/month through laboring can't afford tahriib. The middle class families tend to have steady stream of funds being sent to them from their relatives overseas.

Xplaya,
I had a cousin of mine whom I never met asked me to help him. He said that tahriib and dhoof was impossible nowdays but to pay his final year fees (couple hundred dollars) @ Benadir. I proceeded to pay the fee and today he is a successful doctor who earns a nice salary and works for a NGO. I was amazed at how he had accepted his fate that he was never going to leave Somalia and to make the most of it. His tahriib buddies are either dead, stuck as POWs to Arab pervs, or on welfare.

Re: A story of a Tahriib Woman death, sharks, child rape and
people sell their most precious properties to afford tahriib, like selling house, car, livestock everything and for what?
I really do feel bad for them and watching this young girls story was just too heartbreaking, but they have only themselves to blame it on.
but what I don't get is why we hear so many stories about tahriib women giving birth on boats. I mean it's just mind-blowing anyone sane would tahriib in that condition, don't they have families to stop them.

Re: A story of a Tahriib Woman death, sharks, child rape and
Livestock is not a stable or reliable source of income/wealth, especially in a nation like Somalia where at times 80% or above of a community's livestock could be wiped out.
There is a reason why Somalis are repeatedly dying of mass starvation. The animals die off during periods of famine and their only source of wealth and food depreciates into nonexistence.
I do not think that the avg nomad has the means to purchase corn/soy/grass for his/her livestock during famine. However, those who are able to export livestock have the means to feed their animals.
There poverty is real and there are real economic factors behind their socioeconomic condition.

What it boiles down to is wether Tahriib is a despration or a choice, a fantacy of going to NY and walking through Broadway and Manhatn. What i believe and seen is that city people do Tahriib more then the desprate nomads, so its matter of choice not despration , if been desprate will psuh you out ..the nomads would have done it long time ago.
A well known somali politicians use to say "Dalkaaga Aaamin " to young Tahriib candidates in the 1970's namely Jamaac Qaalib, a man has to believe his own way of life and accept it and try to enjoy, $200 monthly in Burco where the rent of a house is $30 is a good life... they would leave that and run to "Jaxiim" thats if they survive and then get abused by Arabs. Tow years ago 15 somali teenager girls were arrested by Saudis in the company of gangs of smugglers , they fuckked them in every hole, the 15 teenger girls all came from a well to do families..now imagin ,

Geeridu marbay nolosha dhaantaa. its matter of choice not despration, These people died after they lost there dignity!!
Re: A story of a Tahriib Woman death, sharks, child rape and
We should build monuments to these tahriib heroes when Somalia gets back on its feet. These heroic men and women are risking life and limp to improve their lot, mistakenly of course but they're striving for better which is commendable. X.Playa's nostalgia for "dignified" nomadic poverty and destitute is misplaced. Look at N. America, Australia, New Zealand, etc ... all these places were built by people seeking to improve their lot not those content with the hand delt to them by life.
Re: A story of a Tahriib Woman death, sharks, child rape and
All these places you quoted were conqured and secured by armies not by some naked dude in a boat , if that would have taken place the Native would have just practiced their arrow shots on a white meat. You can't compare poor somalis in a boast going to Yemen to white europeans with empires in the 16 century.. your example is childish.
What am saying is its better for these people to starve and die in their country rather then die as slave for Arabs, god knows how many somali women slave are in Libya. The last one of them had 4 sons with an Arab who just took her by force and enslaved her with no marriage nothing...just pure force... is that a better life then staying in Boosaaso or Burco??

the mentality is messed back home, they all think that qurbaha is heaven and they don't realize how hard it is to get there let alone survive there.
I really hope Somalis get their shit together one day so we don't have flood all these random countries that don't give a shit about us

Re: A story of a Tahriib Woman death, sharks, child rape and
Yemen is the dirtiest place on this earth. It was normal when the British ruled it, my grandmother used to live there and many other reer Waqooyi Somalis and the situation with the Arabs were reversed. My grandmother had 3 Arab servants in working in the house.. Maantana Somali ayey adoonsaneyaan, nacaalaa abohood kuyaalku.
What's even worse is the fact this womans son was raped by Arabs (khaniisnimadu waa dhaqankooda) yet she married an Arab, not even long after her Somali husband got murdered.
Fuck Arabs, waa dadka aduunka ugu xun and some Somalis wonder why I question the origin of my clan, because who the fuck ayaa nijaastaas o kale dooneya inuu ku abtirsado?!?
