http://www.theguardian.com/world/2015/a ... this-yemenSomalia has approved the use of its airspace, territorial waters and land for Saudi-led air strikes against the Houthi rebels in Yemen.
According to security sources in the Somali capital, Mogadishu, the president, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, gave his consent to the military action during last month’s Arab League summit in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt.
Abdisalam Hadliye, Somalia’s foreign minister, said on Tuesday his country had “officially approved its airspace, land and territorial waters to be used for the air invasion to prevent the Shia Houthis’ takeover of Yemen”.
He added: “We are worried about the situation in Yemen. Somalia shares the same crisis existing in Yemen and we cannot watch what is going on there. Houthis are trying to topple a legal government so it is the responsibility of the Arabs to protect, and Somalia is playing its role to that end.”
Sources in Mogadishu said Bosaso in north-east Somalia and the Berbera seaport in the breakaway region of Somaliland are to be used for the operation because of their proximity to Yemen. They said: “The approval came with a leasing of Somalia’s airspace by the oil-rich Gulf states.”
During the Arab League summit, Mohamud met the leaders of several countries including Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Yemen. Addressing the summit, he said his government would not hesitate to support the legitimate government in Yemen and prevent the spread of extremist militia there.
Hassan Nuur, a Somali analyst, believes the country’s support for Yemen did not come without a price. He said: “Of course Somalia needs the money while this invasion is led by the richest Arab countries so it is a way of making money.”
There are more than 150,000 Somali refugees in Yemen, where the government has asked Somalia to repatriate them. Nuur added: “Somalis are Sunnis while Huthis are Shias so supporting the current Saudi-led invasion could endanger Somali refugees in Yemen as they could be seen as enemies instead of refugees.”
The fighting in Yemen pits allies of the president, Abd Rabbu Mansour Hadi, against the Iran-backed Houthi rebels and their allies, military units loyal to Hadi’s predecessor, Ali Abdullah Saleh. The Saudi-led coalition, which supports Hadi, has been carrying out air strikes on the Houthis to halt their advance on the southern city of Aden.

Sources in Mogadishu said Bosaso in north-east Somalia and the Berbera seaport in the breakaway region of Somaliland are to be used for the operation because of their proximity to Yemen.
Interesting to see how all this plays out.@if the above is accurate.

That is true. Some refugees are already in Somaliland, the only peaceful spot they could find for them. I guess they had to send them there because they'd end up refugees once again. What does this mean for Somalilands independence?

Who are the 'kneegrows' and what is isbaaro in the skies?
Somalia is getting much needed revenue from this leasing of airspace. Houthi's don't have the money or manpower to do Somalia any harm. The planes would just be refueling and flying off from Berbere and Boosaaso. There would be very little disruption to fishermen there as well because the war is not going to last very long or need too many fleets.
Yalaxoow, they are being repatriated.

Yalaxoow, Ilaahey ha u gargaaro Somalida iyo Sudaanka meesha deggan. Somali iyo Sudan dowladdooda lacag ayaa la siiyey and because Houthis are small, they took the risk. I really hope that they were paid billions but judging from Hassan Sheikhs miniscule deal for Somali waters, I doubt it.

I found that paragraph weird but then I remembered the leverage the Saudis could have on both leaders. Wuxuu ku kicin karraa madaxdaasi wadaadooyinka uu biilo iyo ardadooda oo ku Nool in both areas. Secondly, the Saudis can cut off the pocket money they give to these leaders and ban them and their relatives from entering any Gulf State or may confiscate any accounts they may have stashed them. The Saudis issued a profound and blunt statement to both of the leaders stating, waxaan fasax ka qaatey madaxweeynaha Somalia in aanu isticmaalno jawiga iyo dekedaha Somalia and not a single statement of denials from these leaders. Allah, Amiirka Sacuudiga naga xoogweeynaa. lol

Somalia needs to mind it's own business, tens of millions of dollars is not worth the lives of 150,000 somali rafugees.

Kneegrows aka the somali men in power for whom everything is a potential cash cow.the so called much needed revenue is probably minor and will be pocketed by a few.secondly, a lot of somalis are being fooled into thinking that the somalis will be repatriated. That is a lie.who is going to repatriate close to a million somalis? As for the war, it will be a long one and it will eventually become a war civil war between sunni tribes/alqaeda and the houthis.gedo_gurl wrote:Who are the 'kneegrows' and what is isbaaro in the skies?
