Yes great victory for the motherland. If you consider economic collapse, famine, starvation and mass exodus a win.

That war was a failure , militarily , political and economically. It's like we just went in there without a plan , we didn't even consider the consequences , We lost thousands of Somali men and women , we lost our greatest ally the USSR , We lost valuable Military equipment , a third of the SNA planes and tanks were either destroyed or abandoned and for what ? for us to retreat back to Somalia without even fulfilling our set out goal which was getting the Ogaden back , the SNA's motto should have been "we came , we saw , we conquered and then left". Dagaalkaasi khasaaru ahaa.

I agree with your opinion but there is a problem with it.

We dont know the opinions of Somali Generals about Ogaden War outcome, nobody knows the opinion of Mohamed Ali Samatar and others somali generals and leaders about Ogaden War. If we dont know their opinions our knowledge on what really happened in 1977 would be always limited.

It wasn't the right decision to make really.
Although, the political and militarily state in Ethiopia was in decline
at that period, there was a deficit in the Somali republic economy and it was
heavily dependent on foreign aids. At the same time, a drought hit the nation in 1977.

It would would be much wiser to invade the weak Kenya
but even then, I suspect the IC spearheaded by the U.S would impose
economical and militarily sanctions against Somalia.

But there is no doubt at all, if Somalia didn't enter that war with Ethiopia, the country would
have been better of today.

That war was great victory for Ethiopia. The problem is some southern Somalis don't know the definition of winning. They never won anything so they really think if one shoots then hits something that is a win-----after all without achieving any objective. They are strange people.

Barre went there to free his Ogaden grandmother and his well. He left in few months without his grandmother, the wells, camels, tanks, planes, friends, generals or any loyal supporters even inside his Somalia. It was the seed for disaster. His defeated forces began taking their frustrations on the Somali public. Barre began firing and replacing all his senior officials with his closest kinsmen namely Marehan, Dhulos, Ogaden and some Warsangelis.

In Mogadishu they began calling him 'huuro' and in North he was "afweyne'...he began poisoning Majerteins, imposing curfew in Mogadishu, killing, raping and arresting Isaac all meanwhile 70% of his equipment was laying across the Haud----from Doollo to the outskirts of Harar.

His forces never ran that fast, they even forgot they came into Ethiopia with 9 division tanks and left not even with one. Whatever came back later became the last remaining tanks of SL (May 18 ba la so sarsara), Khaatumo rebels (3 bay riyaha saraan) and few are in Kismayo.

That defeat was so bad, the whole Somalia collapsed as a result....blame and humiliation fuelled whatever they became of today.

To make matter worse now days Cagdheer only begun drugged with dhaanto by Ethiopian DJs and the homeboy in Harar gives them few uniforms and guns and tells them go loose you're now Liyu Police....chase your brothers and burn every village...so you can be featured on Silent Cry documentaries.

Yes Somalia won. Congratulations.

My ngga Mengistu made it all happen...you should pay homage to him.
