I think northern sanaag was a place of spiritual significance for Somalis in pre islamic times. It's the place where frankincense is found , a tree that is used in religious ceremonies of many Afro Asiatic religions both pagan and Abrahamic. On a serious matter, I have no problem if Habar Magaadle was part of that jihad, but if you want us to believe that Habar Maqdi that was mentioned was Habar Magaadle, bring a reliable evidence. Perhaps, you could go to the Ottoman archives and found evidence there. Saudi Arabia is not a place where you would find a reliable, historical documentation. With the exception of Harameyn, they are just nomads like us, and nomads don't keep historical texts in place for hundreds of years. Keep in mind, when Ahmed Gurey and Muslims that were with him were waging that Jihad, they were receiving some sort of support from Ottomans. So, to claim something in that conflict, one needs to find historical documents in Ottoman's archives. You see I am giving you ideas

As for Daarood contribution, it is well-documented, and Gerri Koombe, Mareexaan, Harti, and Absame are all included in those documentations. As a matter fact, I am going to conduct a research and talk to the Daarood subclans in that neighborhood, including Bartire, Baalcad Abasame, Geri Koombe, Ogaadeen, Xarla Koombe and Jiiraan Koombe and see what they know about Habar Maqdi. There are also Harti communities who live in Baabuli, Dirir Dhabe, and in other places who are remnants of that Jihad. I will do the digging on my part and find out who these Habar Maqdi are.

Xarla were a separate ethnic group who had borders with somalis and afars and disappeared after the oromo invasion and the arrival of the semites from massawa(adari aka hadarama)
As Randy said that had problems with somalis during the jihad by blaming eachother when they lose the war so the imam has seperated them

It seems the xarla adopted harari semetic langauge, and assimilated into somali and canfar clans by the time of the Oromo expansions 1560's.
and as for this debate, i see it as a draw.
Rooble worked so hard and brought a very convincing theory, it would have been a straight victory if the arabic text did not say magadle.
The sources from gaal like pankurst etc, are not very usefull because of their very poor arabic language skills,
any native arabic speaker will see that the original text says magaadle not magdi.
So its an even draw between geneology, and location of the makadoor claim, and the original arabic text saying magaadle.
