Lets face the reality. Allah does not ask people what he will do with a dead person. Everyone has a record following him which he needs to answer. Whether we pray for his mercy whole day will not change a bit in his destiny.

I know its a good somalithing to do to wish someone naxariis iyo janna when they die but we wasted so much time doing that than adversing people when they are alive so they can change. I think on two accounts you need to revisit the Islamic books and find out:

A- When someone dies, prayer by the living for them helps them. Remember the hadith that talks about the useful deed a person leaves behind? 1- Knowledge that is beneficial(dad buu wax baray tusaale ahaan qofkaas, it helps the person continuously in their grave) 2- Charity he started/paid that continues after their death(digging a well for example, building a mosque, etc) 3- And a son(progeny) he leaves behind who will pray for them. Here is the key: --> "prays for him". So the status of the dead can be changed through prayer even if they were hell-bound depending on the sin. Polytheism is not forgiven as Allah says in the Quran but the rest of sins can be forgiven no matter how bad they look.

B- You can change Destiny(Qadar) with prayer too. This is complex because there is no complete undersanding of Qadar. According to some articles I read, it has levels, some of it can be changed by the prayer, some can not and it is written in dry Ink. Yet, the bottom line is Allah's saying in the Quran: He wipes what he wants(of records) and leaves(what he wants). Important question is, If Allah desires to change the Qadar for a person, who is to question him Almighty? There are complex things in islam.

We should expand our horizon and study an issue before we make a call on it.

Emphasis on Allah's mercy is important. His Kindness overrides his wrath and surely Allah is a loving God. I know that for sure because he gave me bountiful from his mercy overlooking(without forgetting as Allah is never forgetful) my sins. I know how merciful Allah is. That is why it is good to never judge someone even if it is obvious they are in trouble with their Lord but pray for them as we are all Sinners who want Allah's forgiveness.
