Here's a basic breakdown of somali qabil for dummies. Somali's are divided basically into Dir(isaaq, d&m, hawiye) and Daroood(Majerteen, Ogadeen, Marexaan, Dhulbahante etc).

And within all those sub clan are myriads of sub and sub clans. That's basically it.

so who hates who?
whose got alliances with who?
It depends, back in the sixties when we had a real Somali government, the Somali Youth League all somali's from waqooyi to the south were aligned. But the Majerteen and Mudulood had a strong alliance during that time.

During the barre's military dictatorship, the biggest clan alliance was the infamous MOD(Marehaan, Ogadeen, Dhulbahante). Marehaan was barre's(aun) clan, and ogadeen was the clan of his mother I believe. The rest of the somali clans all started a rebelllion against the corrupt military regime, the first rebellion started by the powerful majerteen elites(SSDF), the isaaqs also followed along as they were you know monkey see monkey do and started the SNM movement, I should also note that Barre masscred many somali's in Galkacyo and Hargeisa, so these rebel movements were legitimate.

And then the gorilla(I say gorilla because they were disorganized and primate like) movement in the south began which was a united hawiye and D&M movement called the USC lead by the late maniac Aideed(aun).

The ogadeen also started rebelling against the barre government although he was kind to them, but mainly the dispute between the ogadeen and marehaan was about land in kismaayo as the marehaan were being favored over all others in kismaayo and were encroaching on other people's land.

In the end, the rebel movements mostly the USC turned out to be drug addicted moryaan and started attacking all daroods(civilians and otherwise), and once they were done, they turned on each other mostly the abgaal and habar gedir and destroyed the once beautiful city of mogadisho looting everything and everyone in the process.

This person is Majerteen hence hating on every other qabil which is a good example of why MJs are disliked and most people would frown upon intermarriage or partnership with them. If all are like this subject used here as an example I can't blame the popularist belief :|

Anyways, people somali history is about qabil. But in the end, all somali's irrespective of qabil contributed both positively and negatively to somalia. That's all you should know nalia.
