Re: Cawlyahan/Maxamed Subeer Tensions
In the 1920's-40's (Rayiid/fall of Sayid Cabdile Xassan) my paternal granddad was killed by Somali askaris( mostly Idoor) who were footsoilders of the British. His profession was a businessman and he would trade on merchandise from Berbera to the hinterland of Ogadenia.Kolombo wrote:Murax,
Its actually an interesting story how my father ended up in Diinsoor. His parents were fleeing British troops chasing down nomads, if you have ever paid attention to colonial practices in Somalia, you will notice that the colonials didn't know how to colonize the nomads and tax them. They tried everything from chasing them out to killing their camels, but they could never tax and document them. There was a particular incident near Baardheere around 1930s-1940s when the British rounded up many nomads and put them in a concentration camp to starve them out. My grandparents escaped it and fled 'till they came to Diinsoor. Most of my grandparents siblings perished because the British set the camp on fire as it was said. It was very gruesome period.
Also during that period My maternal grandad lost his twin brother as they escaped from Dhanaan to Baidoa.During the displacement his young sister went missing and she most likey was adopted by Raxaweyn.
