Day in, day out one sees at somalinet people bragging about buildings, and the size of towns. No-one talks about the extreme poverty, ignorance and disease people in Somalia suffer. Why would on care if so and so builds a mcmansion? Why don't people care about children dying at childbirth, those that don't live beyond the 5 year because of a preventive condition. WHo is responsible for bringing vacinations for them? Sorry, buildings or other people's money don't impress me.

True say.

Whatever is happening and has happened in Mogadishu is tragic and it cant be excused. However, in the face of great tragedy and sufferings, the people of Mogadishu show resilience and against all odds and strive to better their lives. I think this needs to be celebrated .

You don’t have to endorse the sufferings and tragedy in Mogadishu to appreciate these sorts of economic and social achievements. I fail to see the straight line connection that you are drawing here.

Mogadishu only failed politically, and that stems from the failure of the political leaders in that city.

Socially and economically the city is dynamic and resilient.

We need to burry the dead political leadership, and create a new generation of leaders that will bring peace and stability to the city.

Once peace, stability and law are restored to the city, Somalia will stand on its feet again and outcompete the countries of Africa.

TL,

I wrote in a hurry yesterday. I feel a true measure of the spirit and resilence of the people of Mogadishu is best show-cased by those you have rebuilt the National University, those that manage the Medina Hospital, and those that speak out on behalf of the countless voiceless victims of the war. War profiteers, or other private hardwarking people do not neccessarily contribute to the greater good of the community unless they build schools, roads, clinic etc. etc. I will not be impressed by the annual sadako given out as a PR mechanism by the likes of hormuud.

Niya,

Private ventures like Hormud, Nationlink, Qaran Express and other businesses employ thousands of people in Somalia and distribute the remittance money sent from abroad and in the process feeding millions of people. These businesses through their work make sure that the economic lifeline of our country doesn’t go critical. It is because of such businesses that Somalia has been able to stay afloat even after years of turmoil and anarchy.

You shouldn't be just impressed, you should be cheering for them
