One of the good things shaykh sharif done was making it in turkey, as long as the talks are based in turkey it will serve mogadishu. Turkey don't even give this to their kurds and the ruling islamic party adds this all being muslim brothers!

I think faysal waraabe was right he may liked it in a westren places, these countries only care about their economical interests. Turkey cares too but its islmaic market policy is based on a strong muslim unity from a country level to a muslim world-wide level.

The end product of these talks or any other talks will be the formal seperation of Somaliland, the other alternative is another war. Something you dont have the money manpower or stomach for after 20 odd years of war...

Separation is not up to you neither unity is up to us! What was you were you doing in there if the separation was up to you? Not a common sense to me!

What is likely to happen is to achieve a conditional unity with self determination(referendum wich could take ages after some form of power sharing)

Here the somali govt has a hiden agenda wich is not all gobolada waqooyi are onto independence even ismail booobaa says not all waqooyi are separatists!

The world is now recognizing the somali govt with a lot of ambassadors arriving each month, this is not about the current setuation but the future, these countires like japan who knows there is nothing in somalia now are competing to have a foot in this country who may have a great future...these coutries think ahead for 50 years

there is no OIL&GAS confirmation in somalia now, every region can sign OIL&GAS expoloration contracts but they are looking for a govt who can sign eventually the OIL&GAS contracs/deals once it was found. Turkey is one of them and is preparing for that day! This why the talks are economically motivated and you will get some basic reconstructions

once the stability is back to so the south, the somaliland independence claim will not be heard bc one of its two factors is having stability while the south doesn't!.

All these factors can eventually change the agendas!.

Sahal you are right the government in Somalia wants to have a foot in Somaliland but the Secretariat is mostly briefing and keeping the talks on an update for the countries and the international community, its true that Somalia is gaining allot of diplomatic muscle from western country despite the shortcomings. I believe the later will not have allot of complications for Somaliland, there are economic interest in the region. Somalia at any cost cannot give into Somaliland demands while its not in control proper control of their territory this will be a big weakness on their side but they could use Somaliland to eventuate their status. ismaciil Buuba lost it , i cam to the conclusion he is the one who is feeding Southerners that Somaliland is held hostage by separatists leaders and that the overall majority of Somalilanders was unity if that was the case SNM would have never declared independence its always the other way around the majority 97% of the people want separation the politicians were the closest unionist including cigaal and silanyo. The talks right now is for Somalia not good the talks for Somaliland is great , because they are using both the talks for their interests and their separate Foreign policy. The talks for Somalia would be great if the talks were started in 3 years time that would be perfect for Somalia time is of the essence in these crucial times.

Of couse it serves somaliland in the short term like its separate political and economical policies and even the new deal compact was based on the talks achievements, no doubt on this but in the long term the cooperation serves somalia and pulls back somaliland. the place of the talks also serves somalia as turkey is not like a westren christian country with only economical interests though many of them back the turkey based talks on the same vision...

From what I heard the secretariat not only gives reports but will keep debating and suggest some middleground ideas that will make the agendas of the negotions, before them there were no is dhexgal and both sides were lacking communication that why there were no progress.

Learn some thing about turkey and why it serves more mogadishu position

Trukey is the closest foreing govt to somalia followed by qatar

Its president and pm are the only non african prez and pm who visited mogadishu

Besides reconstructing the hospitals, schools, roads, govts departments(parliament and interior ministry) scholarships turkey provides to the somali govt a budget support of $4.5m a month.

This has made the turkish companies to win the favour and contracts.
