Where are the Somali nationalists?

Post by James Dahl »

Why has the nation of Somalia, the birthright of Somalis everywhere, been left to be fought over by zealots and thieves?

The Somali nationalist are in the same category as the somali intellectuals. Most of us left the country fearing for our lives. Only a foolish man fights his brothers in over 2 decades. Only a traitor allies himself with Somalia's century old enemy. Unfortunate many of us didnt expect that the war would be this long and devastating.

But the nationalists are re appearing on the political stage, and that is why men like abdiweli, farmaajo and many others finally have been allowed to enter Somalia by former warlords and jihadists sympathisers.

Thus the country is ready to receive brain gain, peace, competence and most of all... genuine Nationalism.

Therefore peace is vital for the re establishment of peace, unity and secularism.

We've been secular for majority of those 20 years of war, how is peace vital for that to take place, or why is it vital at all?

Nationalism is needed in situations like the one we are in. This is probably the only scenario where Im a pro-nationalists.

Other than that, nationalism as an ideology is a disease and is the root of society's ill.

The majority of those 20 years has been an era of warlordism. Hardly any enviroment that can collectivly be labeled secular.

it wasn't religious which means it was secular, warlordism or not it was still secular. Qabyaalad is a secular institution.

sure, but do they have any clout over the situation?

I'm all for federalism in Somalia, nothing should be as centralized but the way its looking now..

1. Somalis do not want to be taxed, the big rich or any industries that come onto their shores should only pay taxes to regional administrations

2. Somalis do not trust each other and most are pretty xenophobic... diversity is not something Somalis like to welcome

3. Folks don't want to move on from the past.

4. Mogadishu is either run by an incompetent TFG or shabab lunatics. No national army after millions upon hundreds of millions poured out over 20 years for "Reconciliation" and "establishing a state"

They were few and far between and didn't match up to any of the clan organizations. the only thing really that you can use as a real power is the ICU who only lived for 6 months and then Shabaab

But the interesting point is that in Somalia you use Islamic groups during the civil war to say you don't want sharia, but in the same light, u refuse to pit them against their counterparts being clan militias and warlords who are secular. Ur comparison isn't on even playing fields to say the least. If u wanna make Al Shabaab your reference for sharia u better make Aidiid and co your reference for secularism, and not something that wasn't taking place during the war.
