White House calls attack in Somalia 'cowardly'
The White House is condemning an al-Qaida-linked terrorist attack in Somalia that killed at least 70 people.
In Mogadishu, a truck loaded with drums of fuel exploded outside the Ministry of Education on Tuesday, leaving blackened corpses sprawled on the street.
Al-Shabab, which the U.S. considers a terror group with ties to al-Qaida, immediately claimed responsibility for the attack.
White House press secretary Jay Carney called the attack a "despicable and cowardly act." Carney said al-Shabab has shown a pattern of disregard for human life and dignity.
Carney said the United States, United Nations and international community will keep working to provide life-saving relief to Somalis and to support the leaders of the country.
