The number of somalis smoking Shisha or hookah are way up

The shisha cafe's are full of somali customers 7 days a week, half of city gas stations n convenience stores sell shisha flavored tobaccos, the sale of hookah bottles are up, it seems majority of Somali population young and old smoke shisha on regular basis, recently im hearing shisha birthday parties and shisha house parties so the questions I have for my follow forumers is this:

First if you think this dangerous trend is gonna die down next couple years secondly do you think shisha causes more damage then regular cigarettes and do you think we may see more Somali lung cancer patients in near future, I'll take my question of the air.

Pretty much everyone seems to be puffing these days specially our women who shun cigarettes for cultural issues, but people are abusing the usage of the social smoke and desperately need shisha etiquette or else sh!t will make one broke and unhealthy SMH.

and yes it's much more dangerous then cigs, just compare the volume of the smoke and duration. Cigs is 10-15 puffs, shisha is well over 100 (if ur not sharing).

The popularity of hookah, also known as shisha and narghile, runs against the anti-tobacco trend, partly because it appeals to teens and young adults. Water pipes also are exempted from some smoke-free laws and enjoy a mystique of being a more cultural and safer alternative to cigarettes.

"There's a myth that the smoke is filtered by the water," says Thomas Eissenberg, a psychology professor at Virginia Commonwealth University and co-author of a hookah study. The smoke passes through gurgling water before the user inhales it, but, he says, "Every risk of cigarette smoking is also associated with water pipes." Examples:

• Eissenberg says a hookah, which is smoked for about 45 minutes, delivers 36 times more tar than a cigarette, 15 times more carbon monoxide and 70% more nicotine.

• A study in the Journal of Periodontology found that water pipes smokers were five times more likely than non-smokers to show signs of gum disease.

• In a June 2004 study, Jane Henley, an epidemiologist at the American Cancer Society, found that men who smoked water pipes had five times the risk of lung cancer as non-smokers.

Eissenberg says he understands hookah's allure. "The first time I ordered one, it smelled like cherry cough drops," he says. He's concerned it may introduce young people to the addictive nature of nicotine.

I noticed that too, and the shiisha parties these days are out of hand. Qaxootida way isku wada dayan. mid baa caawa xaflad dhigan, mise habeen dambe mid bay dhalashadiisa tahay! WTF. Sometimes I see 6 birthdays consecutive in one week. Now that's a bit more than a mere coincidence. I also noticed that more girls are being pulled into this ugly trend. I know of girls that go to shiisha spots while dressed modestly. I think it's more dangerous. As Someone said it already, but plus hooka hoses aren't filtered like the cigs are. Moreover, you take in more smoke than the cigs thus you swallow more smoke. Not only do you swallow more smoke, you also sometimes swallow ashes if you don't change the charcoal.
