Do sufis worship the dead?
I haven't met any sufis tho, but have heard them worshipping the dead. IS this true? If so what are their justifications as it is blatant shirk?

Your Somali right? Look into your own family and ask them questions they might be Sufis. Atleast 80% of Somalis are Sufis. Trust me I used to laugh at and mock Sufis then found out my family used to be one. If not ask Abuukar he will justify every bid'a and shirk for you
they call upon the dead like the prophet, imams etc to speak to Allah for them on their behalf and grant them duas
subhan'Allah stay far away from this path sis/bro

True, my mum was telling me how back in the day when their Islamic knowledge was limited, everyone used to call upon their ancestors in times of distress, etc.TeAmo wrote:Yeah I'm not lying google it, most are sufis without even knowing.
When she was telling me, she was all like "Istagfur'Allah, we were so dumb
" And if that's Sufism, then I guess they were Sufis.Re: Do sufis worship the dead?
No, sufis do not worship the dead. The keyword with sufis is, intercession. In Christian religious usage, it is a prayer to God on behalf of others. In times of affliction/distress, instead of asking Allah directly, they visit the graves/shrines and ask dead "owliyo" to intercede on their behalf. Their thinking is, those "owliyo" are closer to Allah, so Allah will ease their affliction/distress on behalf of those "owliyo." On their part, sufis make offerings, i.e. slaughter goat/cow/camel and feed the poor. Also, sufis ascribe miracles and supernatural powers to the "owliyo."haxxor wrote:IS this true?

Re: Do sufis worship the dead?
During our jaahilia days we had some strange beliefs but alxamdulilah those days are long gone when pregnant women visited graves of dead wadaads and asked them for blessings and so on.

SO this is how tribalism started?witheredfleur wrote:True, my mum was telling me how back in the day when their Islamic knowledge was limited, everyone used to call upon their ancestors in times of distress, etc.TeAmo wrote:Yeah I'm not lying google it, most are sufis without even knowing.

I've met old Somali aged in their 60s and is knowledgeable about Somalia. I've asked him a question about Sufis, he said exact same thing, he said that in back then around 80% of Somalis were Sufis, but now they have disappeared as more and more Somalis learn their way and deen. Now its around 5-10% he said.
Christians? Don't they pray to Jesus then he prays to God?Arabman wrote:No, sufis do not worship the dead. The keyword with sufis is, intercession. Anyway, intercession isn't what most Muslims, including Somalis already do? Pray to Allah to grant good and ease those who are dead?
I'm little lost on last few sentences, do you mean these Sufis ask the dead to bless them because they are already closer to Allah i.e. they're dead?
Re: Do sufis worship the dead?
In Christianity, you can't directly ask (for example) God to forgive you for a sin/transgression you committed; a priest has to do it for you.haxxor wrote:Christians? Don't they pray to Jesus then he prays to God?

Sufis ask the dead (not any dead, has to be "owliyo") to ask Allah to bless them or ease/remove their distress, etc.I'm little lost on last few sentences, do you mean these Sufis ask the dead to bless them because they are already closer to Allah i.e. they're dead?
