I once met a Kenya woman who had fistula. I had to hold in my tears, the pain these mothers go through can not be expressed in words or even tears.

As for the woman who claimed to have not circumcised a girl for 3 years was busted for cutting her daughter. A mother should never transfer the pain she endured to her children. The cultural perception of your daughter's image should not be more important than her pain. All of these issues could be reduced to a degree if women only contemplate a little bit more about their image as humans who deserve to live a dignified life.

A watched another clip on Somali women in the documentary "Half the Sky" and a British nurse working with Somali women states. "I don't want to say that they (women) are second class citizens, but they are disposable". I think I would have to read the book.

I was furious after hearing those word, then again I never asked myself if Somali women are viewed as disposable in our culture. There might be some truth to it seeing how their pain and needs are neglected often.

This was the first time I ever heard of fistula actually. Big ups to Edna and the doctors, nurses and staff for providing these women with free surgeries

I couldn't help but sympathize for Hinda's husband though :( Just the way in which the documentary is presented somewhat vilifies him, I find. And her children :broken: Masakiin. Hooyo la'aantu wa rafaad.

My friend wrote a research paper on fistula, one of the most graphic papers I have read in my entire life.

You're correct, the Somali interpreter did not use the same tone as the white man and he was actually smiling while asking the question. He wanted to know if his wife's only purpose was to give birth to as many kids possible till she drops dead.

Cadaan people will question us in ways that will exaggerate our problems and dehumanize us in the process. They always have an hidden agenda. But this won't be an issue had we taken the time to address all the problems we are faced with.

I have heard about fistulas before but I have a better understanding now. Thanks Elf

Is this the whole documentary divided into three parts? Because it feels like a lot is missing

I hate this part of Afikaan-nimo. No matter how many times people like Adna or Hawa bash people over the head some things will remain the same. What on earth do people get out of this disgusting practice? I would never raise a hand to my children but some people will cut out their organs so they could worship dead pharoahs (shirk) and disregard the diin all so that a strange man could mutilate and rip open their offspring so that he feels 'manly'. Its a crazy cycle.

Fistula is common in women who are married off too young and FGM rears its ugly head again. Its one of the worst illnesses someone can get. The social isolation alone (due to the smell etc) is enough to make you contemplate suicide. Well congratulations, you buried the female children you never wanted and have served your dead demon gods. Now get the fuck out and stop claiming to be Muslims.
