amnestyMuqdisho(Allssc): In January, the state of Khatumo Regional State was created, claiming to consist of Sool, Sanag and Ayn regions, and claiming affiliation with the Mogadishu-based government. These regions are subject to disputes over control between Somaliland and Puntland. Clashes between Somaliland armed forces and militias allied to Khatumo state displaced thousands of people.

Thousands of people were displaced by fighting in eastern Somalia between the Somaliland Army and militias affiliated to the newly created Khatumo state.

Freedom of expression was increasingly curtailed. Dozens of journalists were arbitrarily arrested and detained. Some reported being beaten in custody. One journalist was killed.

Ahmed Saakin Farah Ilyas, a journalist for Universal TV, was shot dead by unknown gunmen on 25 October in Las Anod town.

No it was a random killing its probably an internal Dhulbahante beef , it had nothing to do with SL and the political difference with the Khatumo militia in taleex.

^ Why lie old man? Waa ceeb qof dhintay in lagu been abuurto Axmed Saakin aun reported a few anti SL demos in LA and he was even locked up a few times where he was threatened by the police. A few days ago in Ceerigaabo another journalist was locked up because he reported that there was an anti SL demo in Suuqa hoose in Ceerigaabo (Harti side).
