Is Dhanto an Ogaden thing?
Did they get it from Ethiopia's custom or something?

Yeah exactly, it's an Ogaden thing stay away from it, it's not a part of your culture.

I like the music and the beats, so I'm afraid I cannot. Unless you're Ogaden and are saying so because you think it's exclusive to you even though it's not

Hydrogen why would you say such a thing like that? universal tv launches dhaanto videos made in hargeisa where you see idoor ilkajajaban oo si qaab daran u boodboodaya saying it's dhaanto.
But runtii dhaanto is for somalis.

Re: Is Dhanto an Ogaden thing?
Dhaanto is a regional dance, that originated with Ogadeen in the hawd, and hen I spread to all the qabils that live in the hawd. That includes marexaan, dhulbahante, sheikhaal, shariif, ogadeen, and I think Isaaq. Now it has become a national Somali cultural dance, done at special celebrations. But in terms of qabiil, Ogaden get the ownership, that is why it is always done in their weddings, and not soo much in other weddings.

Yes. But it has become a national dance even though most dont do it right. It annoys me when I go to Somali cultural night and dhaanto is on the list but the players do it so horrendously that it makes me want to get up there and scream.
most will just do a step back and a step front and they clap. Wtf

Re: Is Dhanto an Ogaden thing?
No.
It may have been originated in some region but not in a clan.
From what I heard it was originated in the upper shabeele region(godey and hiiraan) the other ogadens and these in hawd have adopted it from these in shabeele region.
They play it in hiiraan and galgaduud too.
Ogaden have been just given the chance to show their dance by the media authorities where their poets were dominating, the other clans hadn't.

btw I hate lazy/neat dhaantos, I like the pure dhaanto dance videos on youtube straight from remote villages.
