yasmin i current work in abu-dhabi as an engineer, its very important to have good exprience here unless you have the backing of some big people. it also depends where you got your degree from, if its asia you better look for some other places, but if its UK or US then you have great chance of getting well paid job here. computer science fields are hot here these days. so try your luck. bye.

thanks asad,
Currently I live in the states and I'm about to graduate in 2 years. Do u think I can get a good job if i leave here directly after graduation, without any experience. Is it hard to find a good job if you are a woman, that is what ppl tell me. I want to know if that is true.
Thank you for very much for your kind answer.

my dear these days there aint nothing called called women or men. we have seen and will see in future women more smarter and capable than men, those who say such things are just discouraging you. yes your probability of getting job down here is as high as exprience european. so you have great chances and may god help you succeed.
just finish your studies and insha alah all your dreams will be realized, never accept those who hinder.

I work in the IT industry specially in the Internet and I have a Engineering degree from the UK, I wonder If you can tell me what the average salary is. The salary in the UK is good but cost of living is too high, so I'm entertaining the idea of moving to somewhere else.

hi redman,

the cost of living is very low brother. almost living like a king, you wont spend more than $1000 each month. here, housing is usualy free for engineers and doctors or IT profesionals, sometimes company car is also provided so life is pretty good here. depending on your exprience salaries vary. i think it would be nice to think to explore here. the problem here is that unskilled people will realy suffer. i think before considering to move, to explore first will be good idea first, you may also not like it, or like it.

Every body is asking Asad to sort out their dreams. Please go there and see with your own eyes. Asad please do not make everything simple. I head the living cost in UAE specially in Dubai and AbuDubai is reasonably high. The peaople with children will have to pay education cost for their children and medical expenses will also be paid by yourself. Hope Asad you clarify these points as well as housing cost (exclude your assessment when a company provides these needs).

I am living in Norway for the last two years. I got my degree in Denmark. But I am planing to move to Muslim country in future. At the moment, I am working as a structure Engineer in a Norwegian company and I have two years experience. The company I work with makes modification and repair of oil platform in Norway.

We are two Somali engineers working in the some company. My Somali colleague has a degree in petroleum

How are the possibility of getting work i U.A.E or the neighbour counties. and what is the average salary .

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message

Hi hakim,

The probability of you and your friend to get well paid job in oil producing countries is high. This is how the system works here, you either work for contractor company which is world wide company or local company in oil sector or any other sector. The basic salary varies. Average salary of an engineer working for an oil company is about $3500p/m or 12000dirhams, plus house and a company car if you will live in the city. But if you will work at site the salary remains the same but you will be eligible for every one month you work, you will have one-month holiday which means 6 months holiday with paid salary every year. So it depends on which category you will be in. On the other hand, if you work for a contractor like me, then the case is little bit different, the average salary is the same most of the time, but you will not be permanent (bad if you are a married man) in only one country for example since last 4 months I visited 5 gulf countries where we have projects going on. On this kind of a job, you will have 3 months working period followed by 3 weeks holiday and a 30 days annual leave with paid salary, also accommodation and food are freely provided.
Here in Abu-Dhabi, we will soon complete a gas project and the oil company ADNOC which will soon take over the plant after the startup are recruiting engineers mainly from Arab states (they are given more emphasis than others) and I myself want to apply for it soon and honestly I got a recommendation from there staff which I was working with during the commissioning. So I am soon planing to submit my CV to the personal department for review if you would like that I include yours too you could use my email: guled23@hotmail.com. Believe me you have a good chance, at least better than mine, first you have 2 years experience compare to me only one and you are western graduate. So if you want it brother we can give a try and see our luck. I think I will lose nothing, comparison with Norway I will have to leave it to you, you know better than me, although I heard North-sea oil companies are not bad. Brother, sorry if wasn't able to give you answer sooner, I was dump busy and today its just that I will travel tomorrow to Saudi Arabia, I am using the hotel internet. So maybe after a week or less I will be back or I will be checking my emails wherever I am so you can send it my mail from now on. Jaw.

Asad,

May you please ask your mum for me this question which is burnung me inside.

I will be graduating this summer, but I do not wish to undertake alot of experiance. in other words, I will not work as House Offcicer. This is due to Islamic reasons. But What I will prospectifully do is that I will do the MRCS Exam" Member of Royal collage of Surgeons" and if I pass, I will hopefully come to U.A.E. Consequently, I need to know, Would I be regarded as a specialised Doctor or will I be clasified as a Junior doctor, or Do I need to do an Exam.

Yours

P.S. I forget to tell you that I am from London England.

salaan all,

omar,

brother i learned the market is full of MBA's and the probability of getting well paid job depends on your management record. i mean many years of exprience and so on. actually proven record or so on...i hope you understand what i mean.

abdinur,

of course jobs are available for Electronic or IT profesionals here but at the sametime i cant know what you want and what really satisfies you. i already wrote rough idea how things work down here, so if you want to know very deeply i think a short visit will do.

N & zamia,
only exam is between getting a job here as a doctor or nurse. you pass you get job you dont pass you dont get it. its clear.
zamia,
my mum said "to pass CGFNS exam will be great advantage" meaning that no further exam will be required. good accomodation is offered to nurses here. actually they live better than their american counterparts and work less hours than them. but the overall yearly earnings is lower here.

Whether you go to Kuwait or UAE, they are all the same: bunch of knuckle-heads with 'cigal' on top. I don't know where you live, but you can definitely find a job in IT right where you are. No need to go through the hussle of dealing with close-minded Arabs. So, take it from me sister, you may be better off without those arrogant arabs.

Salamu 3ailkum Guys!

I'm a university student in North America. I'm studying pure mathematics currently, and i'm planning to change programs to Accounting in the gulf. I was wondering if it would be a good idea to change programs. Also, how are the jobs for accountants compared to mathematics educators. My father was in ksa for almost 30 years....and he's advicing me to go into his profession of accounting. I would really appreciated, if you would suggest any of the two profession in particuler. This question goes out to anyone with a reasonable answer.....salamu 3ailkum.....and may allah(swt) bless you all....

Great Topic.

I am currently reading Classics in Ruskin College, Oxford. I am in my final year, and guess what; I had an interview with the City group " the group that owns the City Bank" couple weeks ago at the Grosvernor Hotel, Park Lane London, and on Monday. I have received a letter that states if I attain 2:1 degree then I should be joining them 15/February 2002 at their offices in Dubai.

Isn't that congruously welcoming news, Furooreeee?

Asad, thanks for the pleasant information you had provided for our fellow comrades.
