Salaamu Alaikum all;
Can you please list all the traditional medicines we used back home to prevent, treat, or assist in the rehabilitation of diseases? And what your thoughts are about them. Can you also comment on how they compere/contrast conventional medicine. Thanks

Well, people talk about the benefits of the following to combat different ailments:
1. Honey; used against flu, cold and for general health benefits
2. Ginger, same as above
3. Cloves, pain killer
4. Lemon, same as #1 plus stomach-pain
5. Black pepper, same as #1
6. Xabbadda soda, don't know
7. Malmal, don't know
8. Nutmeg, the poor man's viagra 
9. Some kind of green leaves used against measles
That is all I remeber now. |

opps I forgot to answer the second part of your question. Personally, I prefer all things natural. However, it is sometimes difficult to trust the safety of non traditional medicine since most are not FDA approved. In the US, people in pursuit of the mighty dollar will sell you anything, from traditional medicine that can cure cancer to anyhting you can imagine. So, in principle I don't if people use traditional medicine for minor ailments such as seasonal cold, however, for serious prognosis one should seek more relibale form of medication i.e modern medicine. |
