Hakima | Wednesday, October 25, 2000 - 10:22 pm salaam alaykum, My brother in islam, i think eating with your hand is Sunna. I have not seen verse in Quran that orders muslims to use their right hands when eating. However, i did encounter several ahadith that tell us to use the right hand, therefore, it is Sunna. Bear in mind that whatever we been told in the Quran or in the ahadith we have to perform them. Umar bin Abu Salamah, may Allah be pleased with them, reported: I was under the care of Allah's messenger (may peace be upon him) and as my hand used to roam in the dish, has said to me : Boy, mention the name of Allah and eat with your right hand and eat from what is near to you. Aisha narrated: the prophet used to love to start doing things from the right side whenever possible in performing ablution (wadu), putting on his shoes, and combing his hair. So, dear brother, it is recommended that we should use our right hand and that whatever we perform we should start it from the right side. May Allah guide us to the right path...amiin. peace... |
