Dear brothers/sisters/friends,
Salam to you all,

I am very curious about Somali culture, our culture. Looking back what had happened and what is hapening in our society today(inside or outside the home) has for sure relation with our culture.
Somali people claim that ISLAM reached earlier in our country, we are muslims and many other issues relation with Islam.

I HAVE BIG QUESTION HERE, DOES OUR CULTURE BASED ON ISLAM???? I have a DOUBT.

HOPE YOU REPLY RATIONALLY RATHER THAN IRRARIONAL THINKING, have an idea about culture, polite way and the last hope you are an educated person.

SALAM

"Somali people claim that ISLAM reached earlier in our country, we are muslims and many other issues relation with Islam."

i think the claim is true. ;-)

"I HAVE BIG QUESTION HERE, DOES OUR CULTURE BASED ON ISLAM???? I have a DOUBT."

if our culture were islam, you wouldn't have doubted if an islamic culture and somali culture is the same or not ;-). as far as i know, there is only one islamic culture and that is the teaching of islam found in the Qur'an and in the saying of the prophet.

ask youself this: was it the islamic teaching that made some of the somalis killers and rapists; was it the islamic teaching in the Qura'n that told the somalis to fight, lude, and corrupt each other or was it the lack of the islamic culture in the Qur'an which was not in their lives that made the somalis act the way they did/do to each other? ;-)

"HOPE YOU REPLY RATIONALLY RATHER THAN IRRARIONAL THINKING, have an idea about culture, polite way"

i hope i did all of that. ;-)

"and the last hope you are an educated person."

i do not consider myself an educated person. i do not know that much, i hope that is okay with you in order for me to reply and point out the little things i know. ;-)

to y'all,

in my own opinion i believe that our somalian traditional is nothing but HAREM and the reason for this that our traditional is not based on the religion. let me give some e.g, going to weddings wearing dirac which is see-through and also with little kabarasat which does not even cover your hair proberly. the "jad", which basicly every somalain man eats which is also karahiya. i could on more but i think that y'all got my point.

but i believe that islam does culture and i enjoy using them traditionals in my life. this what leads you to go HEAVEN AND NOT HELL. so if you want o go to hell than follow the somalian traditional.
peace & harmony

Dear brothers/sisters/friends,
Salam to you all.

I am very happy to your replies.

Bro. Asad, We share some views and is good. let me clear my point more, can we say somali culture is islamic culture??? or another way what is the somali culture??? and the last what is the difference between somali culture and islamic culture???

Dear reallady2000,

I have that asumption with you, that our culture does not have roots with Islam. There are some elements in our culture which have base in Islam. The question is what are the roots of our culture?.

I am still curious about Somali culture, any has more points or clarify more, please let us share together.

Salam

"Bro. Asad, We share some views and is good."

i do not think we share the some veiws, but that is okay. ;-)

"let me clear my point more, can we say somali culture is islamic culture???"

only when the somali culture follows islamic culture that is in the Qur'an and the sunnah, the some way a saudi culture can not be islamic culture if and when the saudi culture does not follow islamic culture that is in the Qur'an and the sunnah. ;-)

"and the last what is the difference between somali culture and islamic culture???"

the difference is that the terms somali culture and islamic culture are not two interchangeable words. the some way that the saudi culture is not an islamic culture, the somali culture is not islamic culture----unless both cultures adopt islamic culture.

"There are some elements in our culture which have base in Islam."

yes, some elements, but does not mean our culture is islamic and some other elements are not islamic, right?

"I am still curious about Somali culture, any has more points or clarify more, please let us share together."

when people say that somali culture is an islamic culture, then that is fasle, right? if not, all the killings and raping the somalis done to each other is islamic, right? wrong. ;-)

"let me give some e.g, going to weddings wearing dirac which is see-through and also with little kabarasat which does not even cover your hair proberly."

i've never been to weddings. however, i've gone to many marriage ceremonies, where they serve food and beverages (the sab--bariis iyo hilib iyo cabitaan). ;-) usually, in the section where men sit, the people who serve the food and beverages are men. i did not see women wearing see-through dirac. ;-)
