I think Arafat and the Palestinian Authority would be making a mistake if they accept any deal that does not allow for compensation for lost property to the approximately 3.5 million displaced Palestinians. Any such deal would lack sufficient credibility among the majority of the Palestinian populace. I also don't think Barak can domestically sell giving total authority over control of Al-Aqsa to the PA. This site, because of it's sacred value to Jews and well as Muslims, must be given some sort of UN or other neutral body administration of this site, since both parties have demonstrated they are not capable of supervising it in a responsible manner. If the final agreement doesn't receive domestic support (at least luke warm support) then it will not be possible to implement. And if it doesn't have support among the Israelis then, should Sharon become Prime Minister, a likely event if the deal is not popular, Sharon will torpedo it. The Palestinians havwe a window here, but I suspect it's a short one. Powell will likely not be as engaged as Albright was on this issue and Bush is likely to distance himself more from Israel if a deal isn't brokkered by the time he's inaugurated.

Salama...

If the issue of the deal is, anyhow, anywhat, any-any, to give a sovereignty over Al-Aqsa Masaajid, then nothing works. When I say, Al-Aqsa Masaajid. I mean the entire Eastern City of Al-Qudus {Jerusalem}, particularly Xaram Al-Shariif, including the Wailing Wall, the Temple Mount.

And the proposed Peace Deal I had seen is limited. Which is Yuhuud {Isra'iil} will take sovereignty over their so-called Sacred Places. I don't think so that is the interest, and the behalf of Muslim World. To divide Xaram al-Shariif.

Let Isra'iil divide Western Jerusalem into Falestiinian or otherwise if what it intends is to divide Eastern Al-Qudus.

And don't call my view point is one, as usual, viewed side. Hokey.

I agree with you - surprise, surprise. Palestine should get sovereignty over East Jerusalum AND it should be the Palestinian capital. HOWEVER, that having been said, in the treaty the Palestinians must guarentee Jews (and anyone else) the right to access to these sites to perform their religious rituals. There's no reason why this can not be. We are not talking Mecca here. Besides, if you tell Israel that Jews can not pray at the wailing wall it's a deal breaker. They won't accept that any more than Muslims will accept being told they can not ray at Al-Aqsa. In my mind the most siginificant issue is the Palestinian refugee status. They MUST be compensated for their losses. Anything else it compeltely unjust and will not receive broad based support.
