I don’t care who fantasized to commercial it--whether or not intentionally demeaning, mortifying our Holy place’s name or otherwise coincidentally accidental.
I do have no absolute knowledge if this consequence relates our esteemed sacred city. Since I am not a lexiconist, thus I have no clue whether it had been misused for the sake of our Holy Land’s name. Or whereof it had originated. However, with a full conscious mind, I am pretty sure it is somehow related to, inadvertently or not, its pseudonym to misname dissipatedly, immorally, for the sake of our Holy City. It is a word, for grammar’s sake, a noun, when it is said out aloud, that, perhaps, to some humble Muslims brings tears pouring down from their eyes; for the great, unpretentious affectionate love of it. It is that because for the great honour of it. It is that because of its sacredness. It is that because its historical significance of it. It is that because its divine importance. It is where, universally speaking, a Muslim faces to pray--at least five times a day. And I can imagine the reason those tears flow over Muslims faces, only while they hear its name. The frantic excitement it brings to Muslims hearts is only a dream. Muslim’s tear comes not for its reverence nor do they worship it. However, it is a historical place, where great-great men--nay, messengers--walked on. Their foot-prints were imprinted in the midst of the dusk of this Sacred city. Those men--nay again, honourable messengers--flipped the world upside down. Whether Eastern or Western civilization. And that is the reason Muslims have extreme love for this City. Muslims want to follow the exact foot steps of these messengers. When talking about the Xajj, or titling a person who performed it, a Xaaji {or Xaajiyo} is only a name-dream to have. The Muslim World adores and respects you more deeply because of your Xaajiness. When the world witnesses this annual event, they mesmerized how deeply it is related to Muslims.
Of course, I am talking about, the venerable--{pause}, yes, the venerably of the venerable:
Makkah Al-Makuramah.
Of course, the above name of the city is not the misused name.
The misrepresented one, as you encountered in the Western media, is:
Mecca.
Ah, it really sickens my heart.
“Why?”
Good question, and consider this:
1--Hollywood, the 'mecca' of entertainment industry.
2--New York, the 'mecca' of commercial industry.
3--Las Vegas, the 'mecca' of gaming, gambling, and lottery industry.
4--Hawaii, the 'mecca' of tourist industry.
5--Silicon Valley, the 'mecca' of technology industry.
6--Harlem, Queen's, Bronx, the 'meccas' of drug-related, violence connected, crime industry.
Enough!
Now, as you know now Mecca--it is not an alternative spell, it is a matter of dishonour, the Kingdom of Sacuudi Carabiya has issued decades ago that the only spelled name of Makkah is MAKKAH, even Medina is not confused to Madinah. It is Madinah, not Medina--has had been abused centuries because its only significance to Muslims.
Now, it is time to 'correct' ourselves, not only to use it but to inform others who mistakenly try to spell that way.
