5000 children under the age of five are dying each month in Iraq due to the UN Sanctions placed on them. 32% under the age of five, approximately 960 000 are chronically malnourished. What crimes have these children committed? Are there live cheaper then ours? These sanctions were place ten years ago and have not achieved their goals. Isn't time to break the silence? How can we watch our defenceless brothers and sisters just die? Please join us in a rally (Feb. 24 @ 2pm , Unviversity Ave and Queen St.) to protest the cruel and inhumane treatment of the Iraqi people. For more information check out our website www.nosactions.org

This is not just a problem for the Iraqi community to deal with. It is a problem for the UMMAH of our beloved Prophet Mohammed peace and blessings be upon him.

Asalaamu alaikum...

Guys, those that are in the Greater Toronto Area, please come out and support the rally. It is very important that we show our solidarity in support for our brothers and sisters in Iraq. It is the least we can do. See you there!

salaam.

While in principal I agree that the sanctions are a flawed approach, the "UMMAH" need to simultaneously address the aggressive and unpredictable regime of Saddam Hussein. It's fellow Muslims he victimizes. And while they're at it they could work to support the Khatami regime in Iran. Looking at the victims of the sanctions in a vacum does everyone involved a disservice. Let's face it, the US is going to keep the heat on Iraq until Saddam goes. And if the US didn't keep him in his box, God knows what kind of trouble he'd cause. I don't support sanctions (for reasons that have nothing to do with the humanitarian aspects), but for once it would be nice to see the Arabs peoples clean their own backyard up. The Iraqi people bare some of the responsibility for what is happening there by supporting Hussein.

Mad Mac,
Thank you for your message. I am not in support of Saddam, nor are any of the other students who have come together for this cause. Our concern is this is not the goal of the UN. They were not created for this purpose. They were created to prevent atrocities not to create them. They were created to prevent genocide world wide. Not to pick and choose who is most worthy of life. I do agree that the Arabs need to clean up their own back yard but at the same time the Americans need to get out of everyone else's. They want for the world to run the way they would like. That is not life. They could care less about the Iraqi people. They need to stop taking everything so personal. They have beef with Saddam because he doesn't bow down to them like everyone else. It is not our place for us to tell the Iraqi people to who should be there president. We organized this rally as a forums to speak out about unjust sanctions being placed on them by our elected government. We have a voice in our country not their's. The rally is being organized by many different groups not just Muslims. We have political parties involved as well as inter-faith Church groups. While I hear what you are saying and agree that there is much more to the issue then just ending the sanctions...this we think is a start. We are well aware that this is a very complex issue. We had many similar conversations while planing the rally. We decided to break things down into stages. This rally is go gain media attention on an issue that has been long forgotten.
