Stop the hate! and dance to the beat of the heart

Experiencing Sufism
by James Dillehay
The Sufi experience can be described as an evolutionary process happening within the person. It is said that when the student is ready, the teacher may physically appear and guide them in their transformation until the time when the teacher is seen everywhere.

As a result of working with a Sufi teacher, enhanced perceptions and awareness bring about deep understanding, inner contentment, healing and physical improvements, and intuitive knowing. The word "Sufi" has several meanings in its Arabic origins.

One of these is purity. The practices and techniques of the Sufis bring a state of purity to the body, thoughts, emotions, and psyche. To achieve higher states of consciousness, a Sufi teacher may use dancing, chanting, seclusion in nature, a dinner party, whirling or any number of avenues. The teacher sometimes creates a situation or environment to enhance the experience of the here and now as the fastest road to spirit is through the present moment.

One Sufi 'Master, Adnan Sarhan, has become internationally known for the "Shattari' or rapid method of spiritual development. Through the use of music, drumming, movement, breath, stillness, activity, meditation, and many other techniques, Adrian evokes deep awareness and healing on physical, mental, emotional and psychic levels within a few hours. Additional changes reported by participants include quitting smoking and alcohol effortlessly.

As self-defeating habits drop away, a feeling of purity replaces former tensions and confusion. Whatever activity the person is involved in becomes pure and in the moment. Often a person is in the moment, the time and the surrounding space become expansive and joyful. One's thoughts become serene and content.

In The Moment

The Sufi teacher can draw upon thousands of different techniques to get the student into the moment. However, it might be more Appropriate to say the real technique is the moment itself; and when you know it, when you are in it, you go beyond normal thoughts to extraordinary perceptions. From a book by Adrian, "The Enchanted Oasis of the Ringed Dove," comes the following perspective of how thoughts obscure the power of the present moment.

"Thoughts are the biggest obstacle for the worldly people. Thoughts keep them in the world and keep them at bay from knowing the reality. Thoughts keep them in sheer ignorance from knowing who they are. In this condition, the never know peace except as a word or a thought - no more, no less.

Time has value, importance and beauty. You only thrive in the time that is in your hand and the only time that you could hold on is the time that is in your hand. For how could you hold on to something that is not in your hand? It is the now. It is the present. The time in your hand says to you, 'I am here. I am with you. I am your contentment. I am your pleasure and joy giver. I am the life, the love. I make you tranquil and pleasant. I give you peace that is the gift of eternity. I soothe your mind. I put rhythm in your heart. And your heart beats to the moment. And the moment dances to your heart. And your heart dances with the moment. And life is a dance when you are living it.'

"You are only living when you are graced and blessed in the moment by the moment. The moment is the fountain of serenity. The moment says, 'I am a messenger to you. A messenger of eternity. I bring to you a message of eternal joy and I am joy and tranquility. I am peace and delight. I am faith and trust. I am truth and reality. I am in the moment because I am the moment. I am honor, respect and dignity. I am simple, tolerant and generous. I am the beautiful spring of essence and essence is me. I am the perfume of life and the fragrance of a smile. I am the living spark and spirit that shines in the eyes. I am the sweet taste of heaven and I am heaven in your heart. I am charm, beauty, delight, happiness, tranquility, serenity and the pleasure of life and the joy of love, peace, contentment, harmony, existence, intelligence and truth. I am in the present all the time. With you I am the moment that never fades, that never goes away.

Breathe Into It

Focusing on the breath 'is an excellent way to become more aware of the here and now. By putting the mind completely on one's inhaling and exhaling, one is drawn into the awareness of the present moment and the source of life. Practicing this for ten minutes everyday will bring about many positive changes including reduced tension, enhanced mental focus, and a diminishing of the normal sub-text that seems to run continuously through the mind entangled in the web of the intelligence of concerns.

The more one is in the moment, the clearer and sharper the intelligence becomes. In this state, any activity in the world can become a source of pleasure and enjoyment. When the mind is focused and tranquil, the intuition becomes more active. One hears a deep, still voice from within, the intelligence of the heart, which guides one to happiness and prosperity through spirit and understanding.

Salamu calaykum

I am surprised this subject is still continuing despite my attempt to close it... there is no harm in know about something. The harm is done by those that go on to use the information they have been blessed to encounter... Open mindedness is a gift, but personaly all the negative energy but forward by those brothers who kept pasting in my tread did make me realise of my need to further strengthen my foundamental believes... my knowlegde of ahadith and quran, is most definatly a priority. Only then can i make any wise decision as to what is my limmits...

Somalilander.. that was funny, although i am not sure if i was supposed to laugh.

sufimaster .. i know by finding him/her funny i am at risk of sounding like a stupid wahabi wahabi wahabi. etc etc. lets see if by thinking... thinking... thinking etc and moving your body to the rythmic pulses of a wise one you can figure out why i think it is funny.. if it is a little hard at first relax, becasue you have a lot of thinking time.

on a serious tip May Allah guide me and you to the straight path,
with no detours hopefully that would take us through the river valleys of jordon and Syria

LOL@ Sufi Master. What can I say? I am thoroughly pleased that the land of Somaliland will not be dishonored by having a KAFFIR burried on it's precious soil. ALSO, feel free to send them jinns that are confusing you and your sheikhs after me at any given time. I will recite (not sing) Quran and I will be completely safe. You seem to be very upset. I think you will be loosened if you do the DUA-RENA at the next sufi jam you go to. YOU TRULY DO AMAZE ME, not in a good way, it's just how stupid and ignorant you are that amazes me. PLEASE LEAVE YOUR KAFFIR CORPSE IN WHATEVER KAFFIR COUNTRY YOU ARE FROM. Syria is very open to QAXOOTIs, why don't you go there. I am not Wahabi, I am Muslim; You are not Muslim, you are SUFI. GOT IT? Now drink some caano and go to sleep...KAFFIR!

Assalam alykum.

DEFENDING THE RELIGION

Imaam Ahmad Ibn Hanbal (d.241H) – rahimahullaah – said:

"All praise is due to Allaah who, in every age and interval between the Prophets, raises up a group from the people of knowledge, who call the misguided to guidance, patiently bearing ill-treatment and harm. With the Book of Allaah they give life to the dead and with the Light of Allaah they give sight to the blind. How many a person killed by Iblees (the Devil) they have revived. How beautiful their effect has been upon the people, and how vile the people have been towards them. They expel from the Book of Allaah the alterations of those going beyond bounds, the false claims of the liars and the false interpretations of the ignorant-ones – those who uphold the banner of innovation and let loose the trials and discords; who upon the Book, oppose the Book and agree upon opposing the Book. They speak about Allaah and his Book without knowledge, argue about what is ambiguous in the Book, and deceive the ignorant ones with such ambiguities. We seek refuge in Allaah from the trials of the misguided ones." [1]

Shaykhul-Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah (d.728H) – rahimahullaah – said:

"When some people said to Imaam Ahmad Ibn Hanbal that they felt uneasy about criticizing people, he replied:

"If I were to remain silent, how would the ignorant masses know the truth from falsehood?"

Those who introduce heretical writings which oppose the Qur`aan and Sunnah and those who innovate in matters of worship, then it is obligatory that they be exposed and that the Muslims be warned against them – by unanimous agreement of the Muslim scholars. In fact, when Imaam Ahmad Ibn Hanbal was asked about a man who fasted, prayed and secluded himself in the mosque for worship; if he was dearer to him than a person who spoke against the people of innovation (Ahlul-Bid’ah), he replied:

"When he fasts and prays and secludes himself, then he does so for the benefit of his own self. However, when he speaks out against the innovators, he does so for the benefit of the Muslims in general, and this is more virtuous."

So it is clear that openly opposing the innovators is of general benefit to the Muslims and is considered one of the types of jihaad (struggle) in the path of Allaah. Since purifying the Religion of Allaah and defending it from their attacks is a collective obligation – as is agreed upon by the scholars. For if Allaah did not raise up some people to oppose the innovators, then the Religion would suffer harm, corruption and deviation. Indeed this type of corruption is even greater than the corruption resulting from the corruption of the disbelievers conquering the Muslims. Since when the unbelievers conquer the Muslims, they do not corrupt their hearts, nor their Religion, except after some time. Whereas the innovators corrupt the hearts from the very beginning." [2]

1) Allaah the Most High says:

Those who believe and do not mix their belief with dhulm, they are those upon whom is security and they are the rightly guided. [6:82]

From 'Abdullaah ibn Mas'ood, who said: When this verse was revealed, some Muslims began to grieve, and said: 'Which of us does not do dhulm (oppression) to his soul?' The Messenger of Allaah said: "It is not that, verily it is shirk, have you not heard the saying of Luqmaan to his son:

Oh my Son! Do not make shirk with Allaah. Verily, shirk is a great dhulm. [31:13] [Bukhari & Muslim]

This verse gives glad tidings to the believers, those who single out Allaah alone for worship, those who do not mix their belief with shirk. Rather, they are far from it, they have complete security from the punishment of Allaah in the Hereafter and they are the rightly guided in this world.

2) The Prophet said: "Imaan consists of sixty something branches, the highest of them is the saying 'Laa ilaaha illa Allaah; and the lowest of them is to remove something harmful from the road." [Muslim]

3) Shaikh 'Abdullaah Khayaat mentions in his book entitled Daleel ul-Muslim Fil I'tiqaad wat-Tat-heer. "Because of the human nature of man and due to his lack of infallibility, his feet slip and he falls into disobedience to Allaah. When he is from the people of tawheed, pure from the blemishes of shirk, and he singles out Allaah alone for worship, and he is sincere in saying 'Laa ilaaha illa Allaah' it becomes the greatest factor for his happiness and an expiation for his sins and an elimination of his evil deeds, as has come in the hadeeth of the Messenger of Allaah: " Whoever testifies that none has the right to he worshipped except A llaah, alone without any partners and that Muhammad is His slave and His messenger and that 'Eesaa is a slave of Allaah, and a Word delivered to Maryam and a Spirit from Him, and that Paradise is true and the Fire is true, Allaah will enter him into Paradise in accordance to his deeds." [Bukhari & Muslim]

Verily, 'Laa ilaaha illa Allaah', the testification that the Muslim testifies with, is the foundation necessary for his entrance into Paradise, the place of comfort, even if some of his actions had defects and shortcomings. As has come in the hadeeth Qudsee, Allaah, the Most High, says: "O Son of Aadam, verily If you were to come to Me with the equivalent of the earth full ofmistakes and then meet Me without associating partners with Me in anything then Iwould give to you its equivalent amount of Mercy.) [Hasan - Tirmidhi & ad-Diyaa]

Meaning: If one of you came to Me with an equivalent amount of the earth full of sins and disobedience, but you died upon tawheed, then I would forgive your sins.

It is reported from the Prophet that he said: "Whoever meets Allaah without having associated with Him in anything will enter Paradise and whosoever meets Him associating partners with him in anything will enter the Fire. " [Muslim]

All these narrations clearly show the excellence of tawheed, for it is that by which the happiness of the slave is achieved and the best means for the expiation of his sins and the elimination of his mistakes."
