ASALAMU- ALEYKUM.
We, Somalis are not the victims of acatastrophe or
evil circumstances, to think so will be absurd. We
are the authors of our own misfortunes, the dange
rs threatening our existence being the direct out-
come of our personal failings.
As anation we are richer many in bizarre and horr-
ific experiences, we are hexed by aperennial spell
of misfortunes. Stories you hear about home seem
to belong more to the pages of surreal novels.They
depict events which are hard to believe can happen
between two brothers in Islam!.
Islam,our sacred religion, is areligion of peace,
love and tolerance. The Holy Quran begins in the
name of Allah Who Is "Rahman" and "Raheem", words
generally translated as "beneficient" and "merci-
ful". Apart from these attributed to God, He Is
the Lord as well as the Nourisher and Developer -
of all creatures in every realm of existence.
We, Somalis are locked in adestructive civil war,
we never tried peaceful dialogues that were -
promoted to avoid disputes.According to the tea-
chings of Quran and Sunnah, peaceful negotiations,
instead of war were preffered. Thus we find that
the spirit of tolerance played it,s historical -
role in the promotion of understanding between -
two Muslims at war -- Acase reference to country.
The Muslim is one who makes peace with Allah and
men. Peace with Allah implies the complete submi-
ssion to Allah,s will and commands, and peace with
men is not only to refrain from evils or causing
injury to others, but also to do good to all human
beings.
Islam teaches us that the life of aman can not
be sought with out reference to the life after
death. Allah has not created us for nothing.
According to a"tradition" this worldly life is
atilling-ground for the life here after. We will
reap the harvest of what we have sown here in this
worldly life.This ideology makes our worldly life
worthliving and significant.
But the sad truth is that we, Somalis are not -
responsive to Islamic Code of Conduct. We are
running contrary to Islamic ideology-- for example
we dub our brethen preachers of Islam as "Akhwan"
"Gardhere" and etc, these overly strong words -
suggest that we don,t have the wisdom to under-
stand that Islamic Code of Conduct is the ultimate
solution to our problems, -- be it politically,
socially, economically and the like.
We, Somalis should join hands to endure willingly
the difference of opinions, and we must remember-
that tolerance gives birth to the catholicity of
mind and the spirit of love and accommodation.
I,m pretty sure that the belief in the unity of
Allah leads us to the unity of all of us, Allah
says " O! mankkind! be careful of your Lord, who
created you from asingle soul, and from it created
it,s mate and from them twine, has spread about
amultitude of men and women--- Be careful of your
duty towards Allah to whom you claim (your rights)
of one another and towards the wombs (that bore
you). (Sura iv, Ayat 01)
This verse of Holy Quran clarifies that "all men
and women are sons and daughters of Adam and Eve"
and therefore are brothers and sisters of one -
another, irrespective of difference of race, creed
and colour, therefore we, Somalis should learn from here and should be free from the chains of
prejudice.
Atrue Muslim is one who loves and forgives his -
brothers. He is exhorted to respect others in
order to be respected. Caution against prejudice
and control on anger is the characteristic of
afollower of Islam. This is the teachings of the
Quran and Sunnah and has been the practice of the
caliphs and companions of our prophet -
Muhammed (SAW).
More than any thing else, respect for our brethen
preachers and encouragement of reconciliation are
the tools with which to craft a convincing and
likeable Islamic Welfare State for our people to
appreciate.
I,m strongly of the opinion that the implementa-
tion of Islamic Code of Conduct is the ultimate
solution for our long-suffering and poor masses.
And this can only come true if we come back to the
folds of the Holy Quran and Sunnah and prevail-
over the narrow-minded, vicious and selfish -
remnants of tribalism and the practices of
pre-islamic era.

I just wanted to comment on your comment A. Yare. I think you are so right. I think that the main problem for somalis are that they are ignorant when it comes to the meaning of the Quran. Not to say that all of them are... but unfortunately most are. Reading and memorizing the Quran is no good without understanding or following its guidelines.. So I believe that it mainly has to do with this lack of education.

Sister I fully agree with you, however I mentioned
that mercy and tolerance are the keys to mutual
understanding between two Muslim brothers at war.
I strongly disagree the "version" that there is
no war at home!!. It,s quite difficult to under-
stand why we shy away from pondering over our
problems to come to a meaningful solution. Surely
Allah will help us then.
This is clearly adifficult chapter to formulate,
as it will be subject to alarge number of opinions
which interpret the same facts in different ways,
but I firmly believe that only the Holy Quran and
Sunnah can bail us out both here and here after!!. |

if there is one point i have to agree to the fact with the fact that somali people conveinced in knowing all elements about islam.Yet in the same time Allah knows what they do to the people of somalia and themselves. Islam is far much greater for an imam what makes an idividual who lives in the outback and only prays five times a day that suddenly they know everything about the religon. This is also for the somali preception from the entaire soceith that if someone prays he/she are "wadaad" or a relgoius adviser, dont get me wrong anyone who prays the five times Allah have set is quite good but that does not mean the person knows all aspects of islam. To be short somali people are very far from knowing and defining the principles of this magnificant DEEN of Islam, for start, islam means the surender of soul and mind and from the fact of the condition of our nation today that has yet to be acheived.

Our burden is an adjacent; whether we punished our own hands or used an optical-illusion weapon raised from unknown place, we do admit that we did what we have done. One reason the struggle we can't deviate is "individual's idea" if not "group's ideas." One parallel way we can turn in order to survive in this infinity civil unservant is to turn toward our faith to the sake of Allah (s.w). His true religion as a principle would indeed be a rule that most of us desperately lack and content.
Islam is a enough, and enough is sufficient, and sufficient is adequate, and adequate is a unsuperfluous, and superfluous is congruous!
An allusion of socialism, communism, democratic, republic, totaltorioum, capitalist, all in all, would bring you a blindly social-confusion way, which would start from a treason, and treason, of course, is a misled path, misled path is an unfaithful to his fellow creatures. That is one down so far we've experienced, and not want to repeat what we have learned from that unprecedented mistake.
Finally, I conclude and believe Islamic Shareeca is the only path we didn't taste its rule, and it, surely, is the only ultimate achievement by getting a peaceful community. Let Islamic Shareeca be there and protect us.

I agree the Islamic Shiraca is our only hope now. Until we learn to turn to Allah and beg for forgivness we will never get anywhere. I hope that when the day comes and we are back in our countries we continue to seek the guidence of the all might Allah.

everybody stop going around the problem and for a
change face it, we dont parctice islam and we are being bunished for it, we all know the benfits, talk about the strategies to go forward and elimnate all the constraints which is in the way for the development of our nation, talk about how we can shift our society from a clan based society to a religious based community. We in the west have to start this and then take back home. One god one book one people.if i have to estimate the per cet of the society practising islam today it would be 10%. 10% of what ALLAH told to doin islam is being practised today. Everybody does the five prayers and thats it , thats the relaity.

dear A yare I agree with you that our country is in self-ruin and destruction ,somalia despite it
size and enourmous resources has been let down by
her people.it has been ravaged by the consequences
of tribal power mania,greed,corruption,and lack of
patriotism from its own people.even before the civi war the situation was awful.Somalia's average
growth rate between 1978 and and 1988 was 0.8 per cent(now they no longer compute figures for a country that no longer exist)that was before we were hacking one onother to pieces.
I find your point that our problem can be solve by
religion highly un acceptable.the akhwans and Gardhers as they are so called also share part of
the blame as we all know there mission is to impose an islamic state at all cost,they even have
there own term they call it "jihad fee sabilillah" Give me a break, hacking in the name of God. |

By saying that religion is not the answer to solve
the current problem in our nation then honestly you need help. Let remind you that when islam arrived in Arabia, it was among the first religion order by Allah was to destroy , tribalism and clansisum. Arabs where worse then the situation our country in. Mohamed (alyiah salat waslam)mission was to completely wipe out this disease that seprates people and puts them into liitle Devil families/clans. Ok how can anyone tell me that we are practising the real islam, when we have not even progressed from the early stages of islam. You can say what ever, disagree or think i'm not making. The right islam is the answer for our country, i'm not saying punish people, or adopt strict Koranic rules onb people who dont even abide by the basics, we need practice and practice and practise till the society without being forced into anthing automatically swithes/shifts into a structure that Allah is happy with and an atmosphere that enable Mohameds (asw)UMMA go to JUNAT al NAHEEM.

I know now how hard itis for you to accept the fact that islam wont solve our problem, i also agree with did well in Arabia,but you missed one
point that was in 5 th century,it work because
of the primitve nature of that period,dont forget that camel back was most soficated means of transportation at that time, if u really mean what you are saying Guys i challenge you to get out of
your car and Go get a Donkey ,what worked in Arabia before 1700 ago will have the same effect in todays era govern by sofisticated and a click

Your are skipping the point, we are not talking about the technological changes , neither we are talking about the latest innovation. Islam and the holy book we parctice today, how long ago where they set, long time ago , but they realte to every aspect of life we go through today. people who talk about changed elements always skipp the fact that our religion provides todays and tommorows needs. The changes the way we live, cars , computers are all factors that has been advised by Holy book and Allah that will make life gliter with life and excitments, and to always be careful to fall for the devils evil acts.
An example brother, " when the Muslims where going to battle to the "Land of Shaam" current Lebnon. Syria. and Jordan, the prophat(ASW) warned the the muslim brother (May Allah give them peace and Harmoney)to becareful not to like "donya" (world), because there are many different types of fruits and sweet vegatbles in thses lands"So brother do not fall for the fancy things you today the 20 century but look beyond what you receive in the "akhara" ( life after) |

"This day have I perfected your religion for you, completed my favour upon you, and I have chosen for you Islam as your religion." (Qur'an 5:3)When Allah says this he doesn't mean the religion is only perfect untill further techonolgies are developed. Regardless of time or environment Islam stays intact and will always be perfect.The only problem is we don't follow it right,had we practiced it the way Allah tells us to, we wouldn't be having this problem today. |
