Asalamu alykum my brothers and sisters,
Today I come to you with a common problem among today's youth (me). This past year I have been through allot of things most teenagers my age experience in a lifetime. I have committed adultery and I am very ashamed of that, stolen a car and other goods and merchandise. My parent's and me (my mother especially) have not been on good terms ever since the tender age of 13! My friends are all worthless bums ex: no education, drug addicts, etc.
Once upon a time, I can truly say I was a good girl.but somewhere along the lines of my adolescent is when I started to go astray. Lately people close to me are dying and it makes me even more cautious of the hereafter, however I still carry on with these sins. Majority of the problem might be the people whom I associate myself with.
I love Allah (swt) I honestly do... but becoming religious is something I find completely hard. I do not want to end up like my friends! Plz help me I need advice.

Wa Caleykum Salaam WW,

Muna, the best thing you can do for now is to go to Allah(SWT) and ask for forgiveness. Allah is most forgiving, remember the story about the man who killed 99 people and on his way to ask for forgiveness........?
Well, my point is, we are all human beings and commit mistakes, the difference is some of us go back to Allah and stop the wrong-doings and some of us continue to do the same things and do nothing. Asking for forgiveness is the first thing you must do.

The second thing, you must dissassociate yourself from your partners-in-crime, the people that constantly bring you back in to doing sinfull things. If you want to start a new, fresh page, you must change your life style, you must commit yourself 100%. Remember many before you have done it, for example take Cat Stevens a.k.a Yusuf Islam, he went from being a rock & roll star selling millions of albums to being a devoted Muslim leader. If he who used to be a non-Muslim did it, why can't you a born Muslimah do it?

Next, you need to start with the basics, and that is salat. Pray the compulsory 5 salats. Next, seek people who are religious, it can be your mother, sister, cousin, neighbor, it doesn't matter. Talk to them about ways to improve your practices. There are tons of web sites on the interner about Islam, anything from Qur'an to hadiths. Do research and teach yourself the religion, there are Islamic organizations that donate books and tapes for free, you can e-mail them or write to them and ask for books. Learn and practice the religion.

You can enroll yourself in a madrassa/dugsi if there is one in your area. Walaal, there are tons of things you can do to improve your diin, but it must come from you. You must motivate yourself, remember, this life is short-lived, if we only knew where we are headed, we wouldn't even be able to smile. For all you know, you can die this moment, and then what? What do you have to look forward to? My motto is "It's never too late." Start improving your diin today, ask for forgiveness, Allah is most forgiving.

Walaal, don't get absorbed in these wordly things, they last for a brief moment. Build your faith, defeat the sheydaan that is making you lazy. Every minute of our lives is accounted for and we will be asked about how we spent it. Make the best of your life, and stop believing in this ideology that young people don't die, only old people do. That isn't true, each of us dies when the time comes regardless of our age!

May Allah(SWT) guide you and help you, Aamiin.

Asalaamu alaikum all,

Muna, you are in my duas dearest sis.
I just wanted to share with you the hadith below. I hope it renews your faith in Allah for the believer is always optimistic and never despairs of the mercy of Allah.

Hadeeth qudsi: "O son of Adam, so long as you call upon Me and put your hope in Me, I will forgive you for what you have done, and I shall not mind. O son of Adam, if your sins were to reach the clouds of the sky, and you were to ask me for forgiveness, I will forgive you and I shall not mind. O son of Adam, if you were to come to Me with sins nearly the size of the earth, and you were to meet Me not associating anything with Me, then I would bring you forgiveness nearly the size of (the earth)." (Reported by al-Tirmidhi; Saheeh al-Jaami’, 4338).

Your sister in Islam.
