Assalamu Caleykum WW,

After reading many posts with young Muslim people seeking advice on ways to improve their troubled lives, I thought I might take a few minutes and shift to a rather pleasant side of being a young Muslim.

I have an 18 year old brother, he is currently in 11th grade and this is about him. I don't think I've ever seen anyone in his age group who is this dedicated. I can honestly say that I am nothing close to him.

This young brother started seriously praying when he was between 11 and 13 years old. He used to go to friday khutbas, used to go to dugsi and so on. He then came to the U.S. and continued his efforts.

Everyday, he wakes up early in the morning walks to the mosque which is a few miles away, prays subah there(sometimes he prays subah at home),he then walks to his high school. Right after school, he walks to the mosque again, prays Asr there, walks home eats dinner, walks back to the mosque prays maghrib and isha there, does his home work there while listening to hadiths. Comes home eats and then goes to bed. He does not speak unless it is necessary, he is the most quite one in my family, he does not stare at women, does not listen to any music, does not watch much TV, does not lie, and so on.

He is always approachable and when one asks him for advice, always answers it with regards to what the religion says. Can you believe, even the little time he's at home, he's either listening to Abdul-Bassit/ Muhammad Husri or reading the Qur'an?

When ever there is a function at the mosque, he volunteers, when there is a fund-raising at the mosque, he committs himself to pay even when he has nothing, he asks my parents to help out.

Many people who know him are amazed at him including myself, especially him being in the U.S. and at the critical age of 18. I am way older than him and Walaahi I shy away from him, I weigh what I say when I am speaking to him.

There was even a time he wore khamiis to his high school, I don't know of any kid in the U.S. who would do that. A lot of kids(including Somali kids) were making fun of him wearing the khamiis. After he was asked why he wore it, he said to show everyone how much his religion meant to him. His teachers respect him, even men older than him respect him. I believe that anything is possible and anyone can committ themselves to whatever they want. There are many like and better than him out there. All it takes is determination.
