TO: Yusuf!

Because when the religion of Islam was re-established, Quraish, the tribe of the Prophet...used to make other makkans pay interest for them to go to trades or buy things from their caravans.

The poor, the needy, and all those who couldn't buy/trade things as they wanted...were, therefore, abondoned and left on hanging. Thus did the prohibition of the usury came to pass.

And, you know, the same things happen today. The poor who can't make it are charged usury in order for them to faster their payments(in everything). All in all, it's making people what they can't bear---and Islam prohibits that. Ask anyone who pays usury, it's pain---they would rather NOT. :-)

There are other reasons which why the prohibition of usury came to about, but this one was one of the main ones.

I think Yusuf you're a Muslim person and Muslims don't ask that kind of question. Simply, if you want to agrue Allah, that's no problem, you know who is gonna win. RIBA is HARAAM period. If the Qur'an and the Hadith tell you something, you gotta take it the way it is. You should be saying "Riba is haraam, I heard it, and I obey it." Muslims have no choice over what Allah & his prophet says. On the other hand, if you disobey it, you're not hurting anyone else but your soul.

Salamu Aleikum!

Dear brother Yusuf

An islamic economy is free of interest. Islam prohibits all transactions involving interest.
Interest is neither a trade nor a profit. It is a means of exploitation and concentration of wealth.

The Qur'an says:

"They say, trade is like interest and Allah has allowed trade and prohibited interest." (2:275)

"Whatever you pay as interest, so that it may increase in the property of (other) men, it doesn't increase with Allah." (30:39)

"O you who believe, don't take interest, doubling and quadrupling, and keep your duty to Allah, so that you may prosper."(3:130)

"O you who believe, observe your duty to Allah and give up what remains (due) from interest, if you are believers. But if you do not do it, then be warned of war from Allah and his messenger; and if you repent , then you shall have your capital. Do not exploit and be not exploited."(2:278-279)

Brother!, interest is the basis of modern capitalism. It's completely opposite to Zakah. Zakah channels wealth from the rich to the poor while interest takes away wealth from the poor and hands it over to the rich.

Modern economies are so inter-linked with interest that people may think it is impossible to go without it.

Conclusion: The situation is very complex. But, we must aim at getting ride of interest. An Islamic state must gradually try to change the present system. It needs careful and systematic planning. Allah has not imposed on us something impossible. An interest-free economy will be a boom for all people of the world.

Let the person (Yusuf) ask his question!. You don't have to treat a person who is seeking knowledge or wants to understand more about Islam in that way. If you know better so tell him.

How many of us who exactly don't know WHAT is the hikmah behind this and WHY Allah prohibited This.

Did we, in Somali Banks, have usury? Just wondering!

One thing I love about somalis, even if he/she is not religious, they stay away from such things that are prohibitted in Islam(OK, not all, but majority).

Ansaari, we CAN live without usury. Modern Economy can go to hell, for all I care, I have a religion---and I won't let anybody/anything stop me from observing it! I would rather beg on the streets...than to do things that are not pleasing my Lord. THIS is the message we need to get across to the unbelieving people. Bless you!

To Ahmed

About "The modern economies", I just took this as an example and to clear it up.

You said:"Modern Economies can go to hell, for all I care, I have a religion", Think man! Islam tells not only religion, but tells so many many important aspects of our life, socially, economically, politically and spiritually.

So, you can't be content with by saying "just my religion" while you seem completely don't care all other major issues like "economy" relating This True Religion.

By the way, brother Ahmed you are cursing too much in your messages and Islam doesn't allow such this thing!.

TO: Ansaari!

Well, brother it was you who said that the "Modern economies are so inter-linked with interest that people may think it is impossible to go without it." There is no impossibility---anything can be...every little thing that was DONE by man...man can undo it. Here, on U.S., they make it impossible for you to live without usury---but the fact remains...you CAN. It's a choice---you don't have to live a house(that is on equity-loan) or drive a car that you can't afford(with payments) or use credit cards to go by...or a business that is born out of loan(with interest)...Or whatever else they set-up for the people to fall upon. We can live without all this! THIS is what I meant "it can go to hell". :-)

Brother, expressions---are expressions...nothing more! Don't forget, "Inamal a`maalu bin-niyad"(Everything is by intention)

Hey, you didn't answer my question(but it's okay)! God bless you!

I hav no answer about your question, as I was too young and have never worked in Somalia nor did I have connections with them. Only thing I know about them is, the system was not based on the Low of Allah.

May Allah return and establish the Islamic Khilafah soon!

the point that interest is not accepted in islam is not true ,first dont compare the time the profet and during that time they had banks.....well u also know that ther was no car
dealer either,.the bottom line what the Quraish were doing is still unacceptable in modern day business what they did was that a poor man will ask a rich person if he can lend him some money or good the condition of the agreement is that the poor fellow must Pay more than he borrowed .while
this poor fellow is asked to repay more when he cant even afford to repay his current dept .on the other hand modern business which is completely
different from those days works different this a big financial institutions they lend or save money for the people

don't say anything about islam unless you learn
first, and Islam is Rivival from God Don't compare again what human doing or (human philosophy).
There are dealer's in the ages in Islam and there
was what they call agreed payments(wax lagu heshiiyey)like the dealer's and that is not Haraam
if the dealer himself financing but what's making harram nowdays is third person is financing which's the Banks, and that's where the interests coming from.Alweys you have to know prohibition of
Interest comes from (CASH LOAN)not from sale or(BUYING&SELLING)that means if you borrow some one
money cash he can,t increase that loan what so ever in Islam you pay him back exactly what it was, what so ever the time, loan means in Islam helping each other.BUT ther is something all of us thing it is Interest(RIBA)but it's not (RIBA)
like if you have a car and you told your customer
it's 5000 dollars in cash,6500 in financing for two years that's not (RIBA)if he accepts either way because it's not cash loan but it's selling.
There will be good question:Why it's Harraam financing Cars in the dealership nowdays? The answer is if the dealer financing the car or the house himself not third person(the Banks)who's
payinag cash to the dealer making Interst(RIBA)for
that cash, that's the proplem facing us today I heard SUZUKS do their financing and that's not harraam if they do themselfs.
feel free to ask me where i got that information.

thank you.
