As soon as some other Islamic country besides Turkey signs up to take over in Bosnia and Kosovo I'll be happy to turn the whole place over to them. But you'll notice none of them are stepping up. Wonder why that is? How come they don't want to help their Muslims Brothers? Could it possibly be that they don't want to waste their time and money on the effort? As if the West were making money off of these beggar states. You guys need to take a reality check.

Because I'm on my third trip here and frankly I'm sick of it. It's like the Chechnya thing. This is the same old tired argument about how Muslims are oppressed, how Muslims should rise up, etc etc etc. What Muslims countries need to do is aggressively move to participate in the worlds institutions and stop calling people names who have faiths different from theirs. Lastly, I just have to relate this story. During Desert Storm I was in Saudi Arabia and during maintenance my friend caught a tank crew sleeping and not working on the tank. My friend (who was working as an advisor) started to admonish these guys and one of them said, "If Allah wants the tank to work, it will work." My friend says "God is not going to maintain your tank. If you don't do it it ain't going work." They then got offended bacuase my friend was disrespecting Islam. And you wonder why when we fight we kick ass.

Why would do they send soldiers and "waste" their money? first of all they're not wasting money, for what they gain from having their soldiers there is far more greater than money can buy. Through their "peacekeepers" they are able to manage the situation of that particular country more closely without being seen as outside invaders. They're not there to help out muslims, might I remind you that Albright decided to send troops to kosovo only after fearing Jihaad might break out. Everything the United States or any other Kufar country does for Muslims countries is for their own interest and you'd be stupid to think they do it out of the goodness of their heart. If this was the case they would help the poor people in Chechnya. Unfortunatly, today most Islamic countries are run by hypocritic "Islamic" leaders (ie Yassir Arafat, Sadam Hussien, King Fouad ). The Muslim leaders of today are just as responsible for the situation of the muslim ummah as the Kufars. "you wonder why when we fight we kick ass" ? I work right now in Bosnia and I read ALL the official documents moving through this place. Bosnia is an economic and military sinkhole. The only thing the US got out of this was that it ended the war which had a lot of potential to spill across the rest of the Balkans. The Europeans benefited more because it stopped the ceaseless flow of war refugees. I can assure you the US gets no moentary or political advantage out of this fiasco which is why so many congressional leaders are trying to pull the troops out. I love the close out "In the end we will prevail" - Maybe, but not in this lifetime. The one valid point you have is our failure to pay our arrears. This bill does have to be paid not because the UN is worth a •••• (for us or anyone else) but because we said we would. Major I'm not talking about a rag tag bunch of Muslims coming over and destabilizing things. I'm talking about Muslim countries sending trained military units who perform in a disciplined manner. This is not a free for all, and it requires soldiers, not just a bunch of idiots with weapons. The Muslims who were arrested were of the later category. I'm talking about soldiers from the armies of Egypt, Morocco, Syria, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, UAE, etc. They helped in Somalia and saw how grateful the Somalis were for their help (more Pakistani soldiers were killed by their brother Muslims than any other contributing country). Guess they figured out quicker than the rest of us dumbasses what a waste of time this crap is. Yeah, Somalia isn't hypocritical. A bunch of fine Muslim patriots raping their own woman, looting their country, killing unarmed folks.... Yeah, the US is much worse. Get a grip. At least when we apply force we make an effort to avoid collateral damage.

I've spent more time in this part of the world than I care to think about and I'm sick and tired of listening to a bunch of know nothings from the States (be they Muslims or whatever) continue their commentary. To answer your question. The US Army is schooled on the rules of war. They may not be your rules, but that doesn't matter. Islam does not have a corner on Morality. We do make an effort to follow the rules of war. Sometimes circumstance doesn't allow that, but we do try. The Europeans try as well. If I receive an order that I consider illegal or immoral (example: Go wipe out the viilage) then I am required to disobey it or I am as guilty as the guy who ordered it. Now we're aggressive soldiers, and if provoked and the lid comes off we can be pretty brutal. But we make an effort. I ain't sayin' I'm a saint, but I so try and play by the rules.

How many military people do you personally know that are conscientious objectors?? The US armed forces are major agents that implement and safe guard American foreign policies. Ameican foreign policy is about ensuring american interests by any means necessary. So, Mad Mac, I don't think your morality and justice is synonmous with my perception of what is just or moral. America meddles in the affairs of other people when it feels its intersts are at stake only.....what is just and moral about that?

I did say that if an order is immoral (that is, immoral based on the laws of land warfore) or illegal I am legally bound to disregard it. Now, I am a professional soldier. I have been for 16 years and spent 4 years before that in a military college. Of course our perceptions are not the same. That having been said, America does not only meddle in the interests of other states when it feel it's interests are at stake. I wish you were right. Because if you were I would be home with my girlfriend tonight enjoying a romantic evening instead of sitting in this lousy old 19th century Hapsburg relic of a building with a bunch of guys drinking beer. Same same with Kosovo. So like I said before, if Egypt, Syria, and the UAE would just send one brigade each, I could go home and leave this political basket case of a country to their capable hands. We could throw in a Russian division just to give some balance.

| | Unrecorded Date Komaande An interesting interpretation of history. Actually the "Mujahadin" from other countries that fought here totaled about 700 guys. They were not a factor in the war where armies numbered in the many 10s of thousands. There were two factors that finally forced the Serbs to accept a negotiated settlement - which heretofore they had resisted. The first was the combined Croat / Bosniac offensive, which was threatening the Serbs in Northwestern Bosnia and drove all of theSerbs out of the Kraijina in Southern Croatia. The second was the decision, which up to that point had been resisted strongly by our European allies and the UN, to bomb slected Serb target (mostly ammo dumps). When the Serbs realized they could no longer win the war they decided a negotiated settlement was the best they could do. The Muslims were hardly "wiped out". They still form the majority population group in this country and they committed plenty bits of nastiness themselves. Xaali You should know there are lots of Americans who do not support these adventures because they do not pay off (they didn't pay off for Rome either), they're just sink-holes for dollars and soldiers. We do have lots of people back home who would support a more isolationist policy. Besides, we can't be consistent in these things. Look at Sierra Leone. We haven't lifted a finger to help there because it's another sink hole. Look at Liberia, another sink hole. The list goes on and on. We should restrict the use of troops to the Weinberger/Powell doctrine. We just aren't smart enough to do it right now. I didn't join to sit around and keep the peace in Bosnia. I joined to fight to defend Americas vital interests.
