Reference my request:

My associates are not going to teach religion. they are organizers. They will do fund raising, help provide infratructure, cook that sort of thing. Religion is out. But kids need to be taught religion. I think you are highly qualified. You know the material and you believe in it. When you don't know an answer you are smart enough to look it up. You would make a great teacher. What I believe is not important. I think it's more important for kids (and people) to be well grounded in something that teaches piety and morals (and Islamic morals are basically the same - albeit a stricter variety, as the rest of the judeo christian culture). Islam is the dominant religion in Somalia. I think you'd be great for the job and an outstanding political advisor to myself as well. At the end of the day, you and I want the same thing, a healthy Somalia where people live in peace and can raise a family without fear. Just think about it, that's all I'm asking.

"My associates are not going to teach religion. they are organizers. They will do fund raising, help provide infratructure, cook that sort of thing. Religion is out. But kids need to be taught religion."

you know, in where i live, there is an organization called 'world relief'. it is a christian organization sponsors somali refugees from kenya to america. they also told me (although they are a christian organization that has church affiliations) that their aim of helping the somali muslims come to america has nothing to do with religion. then, i asked them if it was not religion, what was it, then? they said the similar things you are saying (fund raising, help provide settlements, etc....)

"What I believe is not important. I think it's more important for kids (and people) to be well grounded in something that teaches piety and morals (and Islamic morals are basically the same - albeit a stricter variety, as the rest of the judeo christian culture). Islam is the dominant religion in Somalia."

let's assume that you and your associates will able to establish this organization in somalia, i think the best place where the kids will learn the religion is in the religious school known as duksi Quraan that taught by trained teachers in the religion. i am not trained to teach nor am i good at it.

"At the end of the day, you and I want the same thing, a healthy Somalia where people live in peace and can raise a family without fear. Just think about it, that's all I'm asking."

i'll tell you what---if somalia becomes a place where people will live in peace and can raise a family without fear, i do not think you and your associates will have anything to do with it. somalis need first to get their heads together. they are the only ones who can make somalia peaceful. no foreigner is capable of helping or creating for somalis peace. for somalia, this theory is the most likely answer. for any foreigner to interfere or meddle with somali affairs (in politics, in social and in religious teachings) is a mistake. when Somalia gets its feet and solves its problems, may be then foreign relationship that involve with countries and organizations will be looked at by the government. but i will think by then, the government itself can do fund raising, help provide infratructure, cook that sort of thing without any help from any foreign organization.

Well, it's been 10 years, and still there is no vioable government (although the jury is out on this latest effort by Salad. I have spent the last 7 years studying the Somali problem, networking with somalis (and some none Somalis). I'll admit it's hubris on my part, but that doesn't mean it can't work. I am convinced I can make a difference there. In person, Somalis and I connect. I can't explain it exactly, but we are on the same wavelength even though we think differently. I identify with Somalis more than any other ethnic group (including my own). I know it sounds crazy, but its true. I intend to start in Jasira. USAID sets aside a budget of 2 million US dollars for aid projects in Somalia. I know I can tap into some of that money. Same for the German government. I want to develop a wind generation field to provide power to the town as well as build a public water supply (courtesy of help from OXFAM) and paved streets (cobblestone, cut stone is cheap right now in Somalia). This infrastructure, combined with a pleasant and secure environment (courtesy of MAX Security Service working to assist the local elders in maintaining a safe and secure environment) will make Jasira an attractive place to invest in cottage industries. This will compliment the local fishing industry. Jasira also could be a lovely tourist destination for tourists from the Middle East who are looking for that nice family vacation spot.
The orphanage is my friends idea. She wants to establish an orphanage to help house and educate the kids who have been orphaned from the war and have no relatives to take care of them (I ran into quite few of these street urchins when I was there - it's a very sad thing).
Once I'm fully estabilshed in Jasira and we have a secure base to function from then I want to enter the political foray. If the current government there is still struggling to establish itself then I will offer my assistance (gratis) to it. I have extensive experience in the security and military fields and can help the government with its Mooryan problem or with training its genderarmerie. Somalia needs all the help it can get right now - foreign or otherwise. It beats sitting on the side lines hoping things get better. Worst case I end up dead - no one here on the net will be too upset about that anyway. This is a chance to really make a difference, instead of just talking about the problems we could do something about them. You're a smart guy and an honest one. For that matter, maybe you should enter the Somali political scene.

Entering the politics part is very interesting. Worldvision is a christian missionary organization that is not only humanitarian. Their main purpose is to spread the faith with the loaf of bread they give out to people.

Helping Christians Make a World of Difference

We Share a Gospel
Filled With Hope.

Turn on the television or open anewspaper to see stories of need. Turn to the gospel to experience the story of hope that changes lives. As bearers of this Good News, we can't ignore the needs. But sometimes they can become overwhelming. What can one person do? What difference can one group or church make?

Today many Christians are realizing that's exactly where change begins—with individuals, communities and churches who care enough about others to give their time, to offer hope to the hopeless. When any of us touches a life we're ultimately making a
difference in many lives. World Vision provides individuals, groups and churches with resources that will enable them to more effectively witness to hope here and

Also USAID is an independent american organization that promotes american interests in countries they do service. Most of their workers are christian missionaries too.

Are you planning on joining world vision or something??? What makes you think I have the slightest interest in Christian missionaries. True enough, if they offer money for projects I'll be happy to take it. But it's not where I plan to recruit from. USAID isn't as focused as you seem to think it is. It's one of those government boondogles that's just waiting to be exploited.

Sweetgirl
I love you too.

"I have extensive experience in the security and military fields and can help the government with its Mooryan problem or with training its genderarmerie. Somalia needs all the help it can get right now - foreign or otherwise. It beats sitting on the side lines hoping things get better."

mad mac, as i said, it is better that the somalis handle it's problems. if they do handle the problem by themselves, they would feel they did something great. if someone comes to the resque every time they get into trouble, they will be always relying outside help. some somali people think foreigners are the ones that caused the problem in somali in the first place, but i believe the somalis themselves created their own problems and they ought to be the only ones who should make somalia peaceful. so, i say it again, for any foreigner to interfere or meddle with somali affairs (in politics, in social and in religious teachings) is a mistake. therefore, tell your friend to establish an orphanage right where she is. she can help house and educate the kids and their mothers who have been orphaned/widowed and became homeless families in america. there are even somali families right here in america who need help. they could use her generosity. i run into quite few of american homeless families and some somali needy families in america and in the streets where i live. it's a very sad thing.

by all means, if you think Allah told you to go back to somalia, go for it. maybe it is a destiny and it is written for you to die in somalia.
