TO: XORIYO

I have had the chance to read your message and i must say that you are living in a dream world. Without any projudice you will never see united somalia again. For example, in Africa there has been many attempted to make united Africa but they have never success because the approach was based on simply political.

Where in the other hand the European has been success to made united EU. Their success came right after they acknowledge that they can not make united EU simply on political bases. They have used different approach which is economical, freedom of movement; the right the individual can work anywhere in the EU without any major problems providing they have the right passport and freedom of goods movement etc.

This lead them to united the people, because if you can not united the people you can not make united somalia. Therefore my advice to you is do not waist you time for simply researching united somalia.

Dear Xoriyo

I thank you for your responded my message. There is a lot of things which i accepted in your message, but i did not accept the fast majority of your information. If you do not look what happend the formal somalia republic in the last 50 years or so, you will never see what will happen in the future.

In 1 July 1960 two separte and sovereign territories - Somaliland ( a former British protectorate) and Somalia ( the former Italian Somalia) formed a political union that was officially named the Somali Republic. The Somali Republic, as such, became a member of the United Nations, the OAU, and a host of other intergovernmental organisations and was registered under that title.

The officail title of the union did not last long, as had been the case of other constitutional arrangements that were intended to safeguard the interets of Somaliland. Taking advantage of their majority, the representatives of Somalia lost little time in dropping the official nomenclature of the union and replacing it with the name of their own territory - Somalia. The change was entirely political. Its objective was the complete absorption of the territory and people of somaliland into somalia, and the subsequent eradication of all traces of somaliland from the map. This move was not publicized at the time, and it was done without the knowledge and consent of the othe party of the union, namely somaliland.

The somaliland people have sufered greatly for the last 21 years in the name of somali government dominated by south of somali people. They have expericienced kill (ing, rape and bomb-pading their cities Hargeisa, Burco, Barbara, Borame and many other places in the country with hightly sophisticate weppon. Many other people were kill in mugdisho like the 59 people including students and businessman who have been killed in XEEBTA JASIIRA without any reason.

After ten years of bloody and brutal civil war between the freedom fighters SNM and the late dictator's army, Somaliland regained its independence on 18th may 1991. Since then somaliland has enjoyed peace and significant economic growth. It has restored all the basic infrastructures with little help from the international community.

Primary Schools have reopened in towns and villages with a little help from the international organisations. Fortunately the first somaliland university ever has recently opened in hargeisa. Another university is in the pipline and it proposed that it should start functioning this year 2000.

The somalilnd people have forfeited the lives of many of their loved once to get their freedom. The somaliland people have made mistake once to united somalia and they are not willing to go that route again. My advice to you is to address the growing warlords in the street of mugdish and then try to build a country.

Is the new president good? For his work resume, he is well qualified for the Job but does any one know his personality? I am very sceptical. I am also amazed to heard that he worked with Siyad Barre's regim that long. Somalis, we, all know that Siyad Barre was terrible leader and if we all agreed with that why we are following with his students. I guess now may be we should help him start system. I am really sure that there are a lot of young people who can do better Job when it comes to leading our beloved country. Please try to help, encourage, and support those talented young men and women so they can come out and save not only us but also muslim countries.

Abdullahi.

First thing first,

The so called president was elected by his peers, who are as guilty as him. How could someone be a cabinet minister for so long in Siad Barre's regime and be innocent at the same time? OK maybe you would say he wasn't supporting the Siad Barre atrocities, well if so, he is a weak person, and in this era of confusion and turmoil, what Somalia needs is a strong president, not KABO QAAD>
