QOSLAAYE | Saturday, September 16, 2000 - 06:14 pm BBC Monitoring Service - United Kingdom ; 14-Sep-2000 12:00:00 am ; 233 words Text of report by Somaliland newspaper `Jamhuuriya' on 14th September A south Mogadishu faction leader, Museh Sudi Yalahow, has for the first time declared his opposition to Abdiqasim Salad Hasan's government set up in Arta [in Djibouti] recently and has threatened that he will use force against it. Museh Sudi Yalahow is one of the most powerful Mogadishu faction leaders, and he is currently busy organizing in the city's Madina district militiamen loyal to him for a possible showdown with the new government. In an interview yesterday with a Mogadishu-based `Jamhuuriya' correspondent, Hadis Muhammad Hadis, the faction leader said he did not recognize the government set up in Djibouti, and that he was prepared to challenge it militarily. Asked why he changed his stand regarding the Arta conference, given that he had before welcomed in Mogadishu a Djibouti government delegation, Museh Sudi Yalahow said: "We welcomed the delegation so that we could tell it that we also existed. I never accepted the Djibouti government proposals because what it had been doing was wrong." He said if the Abdiqasim government tried to introduce its administration in Mogadishu or set up a police force or bring a single arm into the city "we will eject from the capital in an hour Al-Ittihad [armed Islamists], Islah [Muslim reformists] and blood-stained generals, such as Gen Galal and Jili'ow and businessmen supporting them." The Mogadishu faction leader called for a meeting of all faction leaders in neutral country in order to end the Somali political deadlock. |
