Stratigraphy and Petroleum Prospects of Somaliland

The sedimentary cover of Somaliland includes post-Triassic continental and marine strata which accumulated in basins related
to the disintegration of the Gondwanaland. Among these, the Berbera and Ahl Mado basins are the most important basins
stratigraphically and hydrocarbon potential. Sedimentation in both basins begins with a Jurassic continental sandstone (Adigrat
Formation) overlain by interbedded units of shallow marine limestones and shales (Bihendula sequence) in the Berbera Basin, and
limestone-dominated strata with minor shale and sandstone interbeds (Ahl Mado Group) in the Ahl Mado Basin. The Cretaceous
section, unconformable with the Jurassic sequence, is mainly continental (Yesomma Sandstone) in the Berbera Basin, but becomes
shallow-marine, sandy to pure limestone with subordinate sandstone and shale (Tisje Formation) in the Ahl Mado Basin. By the end
of the Cretaceous Period, a westward marine transgression permitted shallow-marine, Paleocene - lower Eocene limestone (Auradu
Formation) deposition throughout Somaliland. This is succeeded by thick anhydrite strata (Taleh Formation) overlain by
Middle to Late Eocene shallow-marine limestone (Karkar Formation). The later is the youngest stratigraphic unit straddling the Gulf
of Aden. Younger strata of syn- and post-rifting, continental to shallow-marine origin are confined in discrete basins along the coast
of the gulf.
Based on published and unpublished data, the geology of these basins proves that oil and gas have been generated with favorable
reservoirs, as well as structural and stratigraphic traps. Moreover, continuation of these basins across the gulf, matching the
hydrocarbon-producing Marib-Hajar and Say'un-Al Masila basins of Yemen, raises the hydrocarbon prospect of Somaliland.

The fact that Somaliland has petrolium and a prospect of prosperity is why the rest of Somalia are holding on to Somaliland. two weeks ago Somaliland had a US senior officer and a delegate who held talks with H.E the president of Somaliland Mr Mohammed Ibrahim Egal, over the possibility of signing a contract with Somaliland.
Now i've one thing to say to you all Somalis. Stop being jeleous and try to rebuild your own country, and mybe we'll give you some (sadaqo) to feed your poor country.

Look at the Map of Somaliland. Taleh is part of it and there's nothing you can do about it.
When it comes to the places that are now in actuallity its only near Berbera, but the other places are our future resources.

I would be delighted to hear if any where in Somalia is being found petrol or other natural resources and Allah known if our generation could benefit or not! but the sick people like xirane who day and night talking about so called Sland.
let me tell you this, there is no somaliland what so ever, former somali british protecterate was burried in 1960 after the unification of North/south of Somalia, If Isak people wants independence from the rest of Somalia, let them say we isaks, we want independence and stop hypocrite and using other respected tribes Towns ie. Taleh, laska etc

When will you stop about somaliland or
••••• to come to the conclusion.Let me
tell you this,you tried to eliminate us
when you were a gov't,using the somali
army,oyher tribes, money weapons from
the US,USSR,& Arab countries.You know we
fought and won & didn't become vengefull.
We let the people who slaughterd us to
live in peace & join the gov't & say
what ever they feel to say.It seems we
are the only ones who always try to be
fair & nice & all what we get back is
jealousy, badmouth,enemity & much more.
