I wondered this question many times but now i have to let it out of my mine, because it's me inside. Is there anyone who feels proud to be somali first and for all, if so please indicate yourself and let it out.

Sorry, and i hate to disagree with you. I know i'm somali but the reality is i don't really know what it is. And that is the estate of so many somalis; you can see how cruel we are to each other when we are talking. I know the word Somali and Somalia but i don't think anybody believes in that. People tend to love their clans because no body would protect you in the name of Somali. However your tribe may sometimes leave you alone. That's a painfull reality. And we got to live with it. Same thing can be said about being a muslim and being a Somali. That's another topic.

Sahal, brother you sound to be unrealistic and the state you defined only exists within some of us but not all of us. I am VERY proud to be Somali and clan for me is nothing else but a ••••- sorry my language. I owe nothing to my clan and for me is just knowing my ancestors and my root. Walahi, I will not fight even if they all die. Remember in Islam (I hope you are because some of Somali origins are converting) fighting for clan is not one of the allowed conditions of killing another person. Brother think about this, does your clan know that you actually exist (am serious). Of course your immediate family or relatives know you, but the so-called CLAN in general. Do you or any of the members of your clan have a list of all member of your clan, of course NOT? Brother it is OK to say that you are not nationalist, but at least be proud of who you are as Somali, you can't change that any way.

Abdul, i sound unrealistic you said!!! After all that happened in Somalia. I only talk about what my heart felted and what the situation is in Somalia. If there was a true somalism then there is no need of tribism or if any Islamism no need of Somalism. It's painfull truth that most ppl socialize cause they're the same tribe in Somalia and Abroad. Even some of so called Wadaado feel comfortable with some one with the same tribe other than some one who is a different clan. Even you, yourself if you're not denying... the ppl you socialize most of the time are the ones who belong to your clan. I was born from Majertenia tribe and do you think i can go to Mogadisho and not be bothered. No! i didn't think so. So where is Somalism? That would be good(somalism) if it only worked. You need to be realistic. Realistic is some one who sees the reality. Therefore you're emotional not realistic.

I don´t care about qabil, don´t know enything about qabil and i don´t wanna know enything about it
It´s crazy that ppl from same country and have same language and same reliogon care about something so called qabil, it´s totly crazy
Sorry but that´s the way i feel about
I don´t know what else to say, but i don´t want enybody to fight with me becouse i don´t care about qabil.
If i meet someone from my country Somalia, i respect that person as someone who came from same place as i do and i see that person as someone who´s just like me and that´s what makes me happy
If the person is fixed by qabil then we don´t have same thought...Simply i feel sorry for that person, that´s all

ps i don´t want eny coment from enybody except Abdulkadir.

Peace!

Hi

Nice topic to discuss!!well in fact
being proud to be a Somali patriot is something that doesn't exist in our society . The why I said that ..well let us trace back what have happened in Somalia the passed ten yrs then you will figure out the reason. On the other hand there is strong feeling of being proud to belong clan A or B. This is the reality that no one can denies . there might be very few who feel somalism rather than trabism .

To all
An interesting debate indeed. I disagree with those who feel that there is no patriotism in Somalis and our loyalty is to our clans. Those old enough will remember how unfashionable it was in the early-mid seventies to identify with clans. It was time of hope and expectation, and we felt we had a nation to be proud of. Sadly our hopes were cruelly dashed by the Siyad Barre regime when it started oppressing its own people in a bid to keep power. People only reverted to Clanism as a tool of resistance because it was the only system of mass organisation known to them.

So I say to all Somali patriots not to despair. A proud, Democratic and prosperous nation will rise-phoenix like-from the dark hole led to us by those we trusted.
