A team led by Dr Sarah Tishkoff of Pennsylvania University looked at DNA samples from 18 African populations and 45 populations from elsewhere in the world. They found much greater diversity in African populations, which is consistent with mankind in Africa having evolved for a longer period - and thus having started earlier - than populations elsewhere. A closer look at the data suggests that groups that left Africa and populated the rest of the world came from Ethiopia and Somalia. ---113 words Copyright 1999 Times Newspapers Limited what do you think about that?! |
