mohamuud | Thursday, November 23, 2000 - 09:40 am My friends told me that they are in mid 20s and 30s. At the same time, they can't read or write their mother tonque. It would not be matter if they grew up outside the nation but they kept telling me they lived Mogadisho,Hargaysa, and Borama for all thier life. Some of them also told me they left Somalia 10 years ago. Then my questions are: Are they telling the truth. Didn't thier families sent them to school I thouth in 70s and 80s Somali language was it peak. |
DuH | Thursday, November 23, 2000 - 10:15 am pick another topic would you? |
Samiro | Thursday, November 23, 2000 - 10:31 am Why he has to picked another topic when he told you something does exsist. May be you are one of these people he is talking about. If you ar't then you should offended by it. Don't think he want every one should know how to read Somali. The fack is if you are 20- 30 and lived somalia until the age of 12 and can't read SOM you have to give explanation how it happened. |
sis | Thursday, November 23, 2000 - 10:38 am to mohamuud ask them if they are telling you the truth... may be they didn't have any money to go to school or may be they used to hung out on the street rather then at school when they had the chance... ps: teach them |
DuH | Thursday, November 23, 2000 - 10:47 am As i said....pick another Topic. |
Mr.Suaal. | Thursday, November 23, 2000 - 03:32 pm Mohmuud. Anybody who is twenty years and above and lived in somali cities and small towns can read and write somali except the CAMEL HERDERS and those who lived in the BUSH taking care of animals. That is the only reason why. |

zzzzz | Saturday, November 25, 2000 - 09:27 am Salaam ppl I can related to Old fashioned girl...I was too young to be schooled when I was in Somalia and by the time I reached schooling age I was already in Europe. I can speak Somali fluently...and as said my old fashioned, there was never any reason for me to learn how to write somali...I have spent 18yrs of my life in Europe and a year in Africa (mostly in Kenya and Tanzania). Dear Mohamed, some of them may have a reason for not reading or writing Somali, instead of passing judgement brother, next time talk to them. |
Anonymous | Friday, December 01, 2000 - 11:48 pm Mohamoud? have ever heard this proverbial somali adage? "QURBOOW DAD EKEEYE" |
mrcool | Saturday, December 02, 2000 - 05:34 am Here is reality check, IF you where ten years old when you last saw Somalia and cant read and write Somali then you either fall two categories, (1) you are stupid or (2) you where kept under house arrest by your parents, the reasons I said that is because in Somalia education was free for all and you had to in first grade by the time you lose your front teeth, are seven years old or which ever comes first. now at age ten you had to be third grade and the fun part is 3rd graders in Somalia could read and write Somali like any other higher grade. THERE WERE NO EXCUSES TO BE ILLITERATE IN SOMALIA. EVEN CAMEL HERDERS HAD TEACHERS WHO GO AND HERD THEIR CAMEL WITH THEM JUST TO TRAIN THEM TO WRITE LETTERS TO THEIR MOMMY. THIS IS FACT PEOPLE, BETTER DO SOMETHING ABOUT YOUR ILLITERACY, IT IS NO MATTER OF PRIDE NOT TO BE ABLE TO WRITE YOUR OWN FUCKINGG LANGUAGE. IT IS SHAME IF I EVER HEARD ONE. RAMADAN KARIIM. |
Trauntlabgirl | Saturday, December 02, 2000 - 06:03 am Guys, if you read Mohamoud's posting correctly, he is talking about people who grew up in Somalia but can't read or write the language. It says clearly in his posting that those people lived in a Somali city their whole life. So, for those that left somalia when they were young the situation does not apply to you. |
