| | Friday, December 08, 2000 - 05:47 am In my humble opinion, it is not in the longterm interest of Somalia to have mini-states. Puntland, Somaliland etc, should maintain regional autonomy while being part of the Somali Republic. Powersharing should be decentralized, however the military should be centralized in the future to maintain a unified defense against forgein aggression. Having stated the above, I don't think Puntlanders should support the current "government"...staffed by a deja vu cadre of bureaucrats. The very people who for 20 years spearheaded the downwards spiral of Somalia. A "government" concoted in a foreign country with out representing ALL somalis. Viva Puntland! until we have a government based on justice and democracy.

In developed countries every state has thier own adminstration. and central governmetn only deals national issue, therefore it's good idea, and that is what Ali khalif and C/qaasim has a differences, cause Dr. Glaydh has western Ideology, which based on mini states, where Mr Qaasin has old idea which is one administration. so my opinion I think it's good idea.

Somalia as a whole should come together and decide. People listen to me when I say this, there is no getting yourself together and running a full functioning government, until you get to the root of all your problems. What that means is Somali people need to set aside their differences if there are any, and figure out how too get rid of those evil warlords that have made so much money of the chaos in Somalia. Again I go back to the example of America; which also has a civil war as we did North and South. However, after they fought for so long, both sides came together and discussed how they could function as one country. And look at were they are today; brothers and sisters we need to stop being ignorant uncivilized people and start using the brains that Allah has given us. We could over come, the tribe system in our country, heck Siad Barrie almost did it. We just need to talk, and one more thing, many Puntlandes complain about the newly elected president of Somalia. Puntland had all the time in the world to come and join the conference in Djibouti, and make their presence felt. If Puntland wants to get proper representation in the Somali government, they need to be present in conferences like those in Djibouti. What are Puntlanders to good to come and discuss the future of our nation, with other fellow Somalis? There is no use talking about war criminals regaining power, if the people of puntland do not try to make a difference. It has been 4-10 years and counting that Puntland has tried to separate, and nothing in the form of recognition yet. I think it is time to give that up and make something good come out of your current situation, as members of Somalia.

To answer the forums question, I think that a federal Somalia should have the original 18 states so that each state (region) can have its own clan ruler and everyone can get along, hopefully. I wonder what a government based in mogadishu can do for us. Remember somalia is moderately a large country in terms of size with population scattered all over the country. With the poor technology and means of communication it is almost impossible for a central government to manage and service EQUALLY all somalis.
