To all the wananchi out there;
Kenya is going through a political revolution as we speak. As you might be aware the constitution was amended a couple of years ago requiring a leader to serve for only two terms. That time is approaching fast for OUR MAN DANIEL TOROITICH ARAP MOI. And the Kenyans are anxiously waiting for that day to come.The Q Is what will happen if that day comes and the constitution does not prevail? Already there are ppl in Moi's circle who are proposing another amendment to recall the time limit requirement.
Do you think the peaceful nature of Kenyans will stop an all out civil war?? Or the Kenyans will just be fed up with the whole process and let hell brake loose?? What does the future hold for KENYA??

I really don't know why you people even bring up a topic about Kenya, that country is one of the most backward countries in the whole of Africa. Kenya's future doesn't look too bright, because of a lot of political mismanagement. For the comment US Marine made about Kenya being one of the most advanced countries in Africa; all I got to say is I will not disagree it once was, but the fact of the matter is that is no longer true. And Duh who are you to judge what is beautiful, and what is ugly. Everything in this world looks beautiful in there own ways. |

To say that Kenyan somalis are the only ppl. discriminated in Kenya is totally wrong. Iam not defending the gov't of kenya entirely but all kenya's have suffered disrimination one way or the other.
The biggest mistake a lot ppl are making is trying to measure Kenya human rights to that of western world. Mind you Kenya is still not democratic yet and if you think we have had it rough just look at the countries around kenya and you will realize that how insignificant our plights is and has been. Not to say that it's alright.Realistically speaking iam suprised that Kenya is still a peaceful country given it's diversity, demographics, it's location and history. Do you know how many refugees kenya had to host in the last 20 yrs.??? You remember!!!! started with the Ugandans, then came the Ethopians, followed by Rwandis and finally Somalis. All this within a period of 20 yrs, number of refugees approx. 4million ppl. Mind you this is a country that could not support It's own population let alone the refugeees. Unemployment in Kenya is 45%, the country is not self sufficient and has the highest poulation growth in the world. All these happening in a country with an income per capita of US$600. I live in canada one of the wealthiest country in the world with controlled immigration and they are complain about the floods of immigrant into there country. They are claiming the economy can't support all these ppl. Kenya has It's own downfalls but compared to what our neighbours have been through. I am proud to call It Home. What and I am sure other Kenyans are desiring for is a good government. The problems that the country is experience today is due to mismanagement, those infrastructure will be rebuilt once Moi is gone, kenya has the system and the institution in place to start over. And boy are the Kenyans anxious to rebuild. I was there these summer and the spirit of Harambee is still alive as ever.

you said from Nairobi to mandera is 12 hrs, that is totall lie that is 3 days journey. i lived there . so are not telling me •••• about that. call home and ask them.

brother i really agree with you kenya being hosting more refugees close to it is population.
but still those other provence have being built . let me give you example as rift valley provence. Moi built freeways in that provence, i don't don't know if being that provence. the cattles are sitting in the middle of the highways. there is no cars to use. he spent country highest money in projects to build an inport in Eldoret. why the hell do we need international airport there.
there is pipe line from mombasa straight to eldoret. that mean the somalis with the semi trail transporting the fuel have no job any more.
after somalis the only people in kenya who are discriminated are the Turkana's. take a look at the boranas. they are much way better than us, and we are much way more than them in the country even the parliment too.we have more representatives than them but they live better life than us. look at the kikuyus,kambas, merus, coastal as one even the massai's are much way better than us.
i read from paper back in i think it was 1993. when an MP from mandera. MR Abdullahi Aba jana. who was the only pick MP in the whole nation took buschnell the Former American Ambassador to MAndera and the vilages a round it for 2 nights trip. she could not believe that was part of kenya.
he took her to out of the city and showed her little somali kids taking classes under trees.
the teacher is volunter. she said to herself this kids wanna learn but no one give them the chance.
they have mobile library. they transport books with camel from village to village, they don't have car or they can not drive coz of the road is muddy.
one time it was reported that there as school which did it is national examination 3 weeks aftr the whole nation coz cars could not go through.
women rapped in Garissa and wajir outposts.how many many innocent people where killed in NFD. people were put in consetrate camps back in 82 and burned to life bye the kenya gov't forces.
a month ago i was reading the daily nation the kenyan gov't has accept the case of burning only 482 people in wagalla. only 482 brother where did that happen after hitler. you wanna call that your country. |

Guys I think discrimination and human rights abuses are universal, you cant say they only happen to a certain group in a certain country. This experiences that Somalis are having everywhere in the World can only be seen in that light. Somalis in Australia are crying of discrimination, in Canada there are somalis who have stayed there for more than ten years and have been denied papers because the authorities say they no have to provide papers from their government back in somalia, at the same time people from Yugoslavia are given papers on the spot. So dont be caught up with this endless aurguement of which country is better. The only country that would have been better for all somalis was the country that Allah gave them. Now who you gonna blame for what they did to their own country ?

I totally agree with you that NFD has been ignored by the government of Kenya. But lets look at the facts: Yes the gov't has ignored us but we also failed ourselves. Kenya has provided us opportunities on several occasions to advance our own interest and we failed to take advantage of it. The first opp. came after the British left, the country was political young, the commercial sector was thriving and the Somalis and Indians were given fully access to the commercial sector. The Indians took advantage of It they invested in real estate and built Industries and today are enjoying a lifestyle that is 10 times better than India. The Somalis on the other hand started talking about secession we thought we were in Kenya temporarily (you remember Great Somali), therefore Invested in short term business like Transportation, livestock and retail. We ignored the Kenya politics, distanced ourselves from the larger society in the hopes that one day we will leave. Well you can say that was a long time ago. But again, 20 years latter we realized we were not going any where and this is our home. Kenyatta passed way and Moi came to power. He needed allies to survive the Kikuyu threat and the Somali ppl. was one group he turned to. By now you should realize this was the other opp. we hard the cards on the table. What did we do to improve ourselves???We asked for simple tokens like gov't positions. We got two top position: A major General (Mind you in Africa If you hold this position you are technically Ruling) and Minister of State. Again we failed to capitalized on the offer and also failed to take advantage of the position. At one time Mohamud saved the ass of Moi. What did he get for IT????Nothing.
Don't give up on Kenya my friend that country is as much our country as it is for the Kikuyus.We are by far larger than a lot of the other groups all we need to do is organize ourselves and demand our rights. We can rule that country. I have a better chance of ruling Kenya than Somalia. |

The kenyan goverment continues it's illegal occupation of the northern frontier district(with a lot of help from the british,who to this day have military bases in nakuru and mombasa).The fact is that the unfortunate somali nationals who happen to live in n.f.d are entitled to a referendum in which they should decide on wether to be an autonomous region eventually uniting whith their brethren in somalia or continue to live under the rule of people who are of a totally different race,ethnic background and religious persuasion. |
