There are a lot of Somalis living in Toronto but isn't there like an exodus these days of people moving to places like Minnesota? Or was that just a phase? I swear my people are nomads to the bone, one person will move to a new city and say he got a good job and the next thing you know there are like 20 families there within the next year. And before long off we go again to another city where the grass looks greener. |

Hey Montreal is where it's happening. Tu sais ce que je veux dire? I go to McGill University, the best University in Canada (by reputation). Somali kids here are all trilingual, they speak Somali English and French. And we're not lost here or as messed up as T.O. kids, acting like they from da hood and stuff. I guess cause there ain't too many Jamaicans here messing with our heads. Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha. Just kidding! |

Definitely Canada is where the majority of the Somalis live. The estimates are about 100,000 and are growing at a staggering number. Of course, there're good reasons for this high concentration of Somalis in Canada. One of them is due to the fact that most Somali refugees who are brought to the U.S.A. for resettlement migrate to Canada soon after. The wellfare in Canada is never ending. In other words, there's no time limit set there unlike in the U.S.A. Here in the U.S.A., refugees get wellfare for about three months after that they're supposed to fend off for themselves. The sad thing is that most of those Somalis living in Canada are young and able-bodied. Some of them have been living there for decades and never worked a day in their entire existence there.
As for the U.S.A., most of the Somalis are concentrated in the Minnesota area. The reason is basically the same that made them to migrate to Canada in the first place. However, nowadays you notice the trend changing a bit, the Somali communities in Ohio is growing at an alarming number for the same reason mentioned before. For one thing, Minnesota is not the same as it used to be. Even the radio broadcasters there jest about the strong Somali cab-drivers'accent. Not to mention the amount of wellfare dwindling from month to month.

i think my answer would be closer to the equalizer more or less in terms of saying Toronto has close to a 100000 somalis , roughly saying 70000. since i live in T.O you guys could compare it to whereever you living. One more thing somalis stop being so pessimistic."The reputation about somalis in toronto!!!!"...why are you people making it worse? Things are not as bad as yo're saying here.We work, we go to universities and work our butts out to make something out of our selves. Right now, it's very difficult to see the good of somali Torontanians but one day you will sure be seeing " the cream" on top of the cake!!
How long will that take?God knows ..
But just watch and see
and thank god our population in universities and colleges is increasing at a staggering rate.
And many of you right now in U.S are getting well paid jobs because of Canada's education.

Correction TO used to hold the highest number of Somalis in N.America but time chnaged guys...now it's Minnesota that majority somalis are found and the interesting part is most of them ran from Canada in serch of jobs.By the way Canada is nothing compared to USA,so TO is just acity,somalis in the usa are divided between the 50 states....and definitely the r more.
Anyways Somalis are every where be it Canada or USA....in terms of jobs,education I would recommend states,interms of wanting to be just afamily person,just be astudent and not into work then definitely canda is the place...I have been to both but I prefer USA to my comfortability,I miss Canada though.....its cool also! |
