One day an Italian man said, "Somalis are born tired and live to get some rest." Some of you might pretend that this statement is outrageous and fallacious. However, I assure you that is not as far-fetched as it might appear at first.
Did you know that Somalis living in Canada are called, " the unproductive refugees." A nick that perfectly fits them to a T. Surprisingly enough they don't even show up at the employment offices when they're told to do so by the people/churches who brought them to Canada in the first place.
I want to leave you with a conversation between a foreigner and a young Somali boy that took place in Somalia before the fall of Barre's regime. Here it goes, one day a foreigner saw a young, local boy sitting idly by the street and accosted him. He asked the local boy what he was doing sitting there idly. The youngster replied nothing, just killing the time. Hearing this, the foreigner was flabbergasted and started preaching him about the many benefits of working versus doing nothing. But, the youngster seemed non-challant and unheeding. To get his attention, the foreigner pointed out that it would be advisable for him to work hard now so that he'll be able to retire comfortable later. At this, the local youngster blurred out, "What do you think I'm doing now?" (Baisally, the local youngster was saying why wait till I'm sixty or over to enjoy life, while I can do it now without raising a finger).
Dear readers this is something to ponder upon. Are we indeed inherently lazy or what??? |

you based your ideas what an Italian or another foreigner said. What about if you see some lying on beach or on park, do you think he/she is doing nothing?
Somali people, if they are on holiday they believe that they are killing the time!.
If they are lazy, we wouldn't have more militia working day and night, killing, raping, and taking possession's of others by force.
Go and check Somali East Africa drivers, who drive sometimes three days and nights without sleeping.
If you want, there are many mistakes they do.

I totally agree with Yare. Recently, I was in Minneapolis, Minnesota airport in a connection flight to Washington, Seattle. I was totally amazed about what I have seen!! My people were everywhere, shops, rental car agencies, security guards (I’m talking about Airport security)Best gate to smuggle Qatt.lol. Honestly, you may think that you are in Mogadishu airport. I was so happy to see them, and keep in mind, this is taking place ONLY at the airport, so how about if you enter the city??. Somalis aren’t lazy to work, not at all. Actually, we have contributed a great deal of money in Clinton era than any other race in America. Where would you think the surplus came from?? As a Tax payers, believe me, we are part of this strong economy. |

Equalizer you have a great point. I have to admit some somali people can be lazy, but we shouldn't drag every down to that level because that would mean we will be sterio-typing our selfs.
Read this point below and you will find that people in general are different and every one is the product of there environment (there suroundings). >

Can't make your mind up, thats because every one is different, some peoples goals in life could be to get a degree and then after that they thing "Oh i've got my Masters now i don't need to do anything now so i'll just relax". While others constantly think of ways of improving there lifes and those around them as well.
So you see equlizer you have a great point from which you saw that title from, but remeber this there are other great achivers who have rised or are waiting to rise.

your idea is based on bias. Of course, we aren't hard working as chinese nor indians but we are more productive than average afro-americans.
For sure, we are lacking some good fundlemental elements, like long term planing, thinking our future, doing right thing and the right time, decission making, making research and doing our home work, sacrificing small time of education to get good future. In short, we are lacking a great deal when it comes to prioritizing the tasks and planing. but we aren't such that lazy.

ppl work for different objective. the simplest one is to satisfy their basic needs.
but since somalian are such socialist society, many ppl relies on their relatives to fulfill
these needs. although, i consider the family ties are one of the most powerful element of somalian culture, it helps some ppl to get lazy.
other than that i think somalis are just fine. |

You raise an extremely relevant issue. << Is it true that Somalis are the laziest people ever walked on the planet earth???>> I think we should talk about this topic without the comparative <planet earth> phrase.
Let me start by saying that we are not different from other groups of ppl in the Diaspora. On the contrary, alxamdullilaah, we are doing well. And here in London, most Somali people I know are hard working and enterprising ppl though there a few big time-wasters and QAAD chewers who behave as if there is no tommorrow.
Otherwise WE ARE DOING VERY WELL FOR 10 YEARS OF LIFE IN DIASPORA.

to hear from everbody so the views that we
see here are on indvidual accounts.
what i beleive could be different from what somebodyelse believes.
yet, most somali people that i
have come across
know that they are lazy but
don't do anything about it , so most of us know the answer to did you know
