The Equalizer

As we all know, Somalia has recently re-invented itself by proclaiming to have established an interim government. This initiative was received with mixed feelings from international community. Yet, it seems as the days pass more and more countries are welcoming her back into the world arena.

Obviously, the biggest obstacle to its flourishing and succeeding is coming from its opposing warlords who won’t acknowledge her. Some of these warlords feel that the new interim government is not all-inclusive. As such they call for a new round of peace talks.

Most outside observers, including myself, acknowledge that this new administration is not all-inclusive; yet, we wonder whether another peace talk will be any different from the previous ones. This answer to this question is two-sided and it all depends on which side you are.

On the one hand, you’ve those who oppose a renewed peace talk alleging that the warlords are not genuine in their demands. They accuse them of wanting to rekindle the hatred and havoc that destroyed Somalia for the past decade. Further, they argue if the warlords were indeed sincere about their claims, they wouldn’t have boycotted the Arte peace talk.

On the other hand, you’ve the factional warlords and their supporters saying the peace talk at Arte couldn’t have been fair ‘cause of the alliance between the Somali organizers of that peace talk and the Government of Djibouti. As such they opted to boycott the peace talk all together.

Such being the impasse, I wonder whether there will ever be finality to this whole finger pointing and confusion. And whether there will ever be any light at the end of the tunnel for Somalia.

Yes there will be light at the end of the so-called tunnel for Somalia Insha Allah. It is already apparent to those who pay close attention to Somali politics; times are changing in our East African nation. Somalia has the highest possibility of making the transition from starving nation, to a second or first world nation. We have the largest coast- line in the whole of Africa; which mean big business from fishing; a multi billion dollar industry. It also means big taxing on ships that are carrying goods that want to use Somali water space to travel. In addition, since Somalia is a warm country, with many beaches, we could indorse tourism in Somalia. As you can see I have mentioned, a lot of big businesses that could finance Somalia, that don't really involve natural resources, but lets just quickly look at the available natural resources in Somalia. We got copper, Uranium, Zinc and many other precious stones and minerals, but I have not touched on the petroleum possibility, and they recently pondered gold and diamond possibility in Somalia. So as you can clearly see my fellow Somali brothers and sisters, we could get rich and live in the comfort of our own country, but all it takes is the willingness of every Somali person to participate. That is almost a complete possibility, with the creation of the new Somali government.
